Ducati cuts motorbike output, approves ‘temporary layoffs’

Ducati has approved temporary layoffs for 380 workers after a decision to cut output by 1,700 bikes, a company executive said Wednesday.

Human-resources director Danilo Bernardini said the production cuts were due to weak international demand amid a slump in the motorcycle market "This is an absolutely normal procedure, and a temporary measure to prevent overstocking ahead of new motorcycle launches slated for later this year.”

According to Bernadini, the workers will be laid off for "just a few days" at full salary, to allow company to run down unsold stocks.

Well the press release did say it was just for a few days until they could run-down existing stocks... and Lynda seems to be handling that on her own... :scooter:

Sounds a bit like a Harley trick (hang on don't HD have a financial interest in Ducati), to make sure that they maintain enough demand in the market.

Don't worry Linda they probably need to have the production line free so they can build a few new motors for the next WSB meeting.

Looks as if I'll just have to keep saving for that 749R.

Hey - I was there a couple of weeks ago, and bought 2 pairs of shoes, and a shirt, but no (zero! None! 0) bike gear. We nearly did - my wife wanted to go in the little shop next to all the other bike shops (they have a bike shop precinct, y'know) that specialised in leathers, but I said, "Nah - we've got bike shops back home".
Y'know what was interesting - she was actually very interested in looking at all the bikes on the footpath, in the front of the shops, etc.
Hmmmm.... mebbe we should go window-shopping around some shops here, like AMPS or summat....

The motorcycle shops in Melbourne as wicked. And they're all in walking distance of the main CBD and they're all together (well except for the BMW shop :whocares: )
Problem is, I was only aloud to go into the first 3, then my wife got bored and we had to go shoe shopping again :wacko:

They also have a really weird rule if you're turning right at an intersection, they'll pull over to the left, in front of the cars that are on the red light, then they wait until the light goes green for the other traffic and then they turn.
In the taxi on the way to the hotel I almost shat myself with that coupled with the crazy taxi drivers.

It's not on all intersections, just those marked with a sign, where there's a tram track up the middle. Makes sense, once you understand how it works. Better than getting squished by a tram.:crazy:

Thanks Jaz, I'm feeling slightly better now that I've calmed down a bit after the hot tea, and realised that my Melbourne spending spree will actually be helping the situation.

So, let me just clarify things for myself: the more I spend/buy up Duc parts etc etc, the better it will make it for Ducati.

I understand the best Ducati shop is actually in Church Street, Richmond. I've got it all sussed out already, it's highlighted on the map, and I have emailed them to ask all sorts of questions (like "have you got lots of carbon fibre and titanium goodies for Monsters in stock? If not, please stock up before the 14th of October.")

Yeah, the "hook turn" actually works really well once you get used to it. Scary for the first few times though!
