Here is a link to a website written by a daughter of a Russian Nuclear Scientist. She takes rides (with a few precautions and a geiger counter) through the dead zone around Chernobyl. Amazing story and eerie photos.

A lot of it is made up, still it bought the story of the accident to many people and got the "Story" out.
