Doing that would lean it out HEAPS!
Would look cool, but for a road bike I wouldnt recomend doing it.

What I use as a plug removal tool on the GSXR's is a piece of 1/2" rubber hose, about 6" long, with a short bolt pushed in one end of it. Loosen your plugs with a 19mm long reach socket, then remove the socket-push the rubber hose over the plug. Then you can use the rubber hose to finish removing the plug, easy as.

Hi,
Your bike has flatslides factory fitted doesn't it?
Not so bad to run pods with them - it's the CV carbs that people
have all the dramas with pods cause they need a flow of clean air
from a decent airbox.
I'd expect you will need larger mains and be fiddling with your needle jet.
Also due to age your fuel valves may be leaking as they do, does it drip fuel at all?
Cheers

drip fuel ,the other idea i had was to re-shape the airbox does it have to be that size? prob be easier to find an old airbox to cut down and reshape

I've got an 87 gsxr750 with uni filters and 38mm dynojetted CV's on it (my big profile pic). Runs pretty shite, carbs are probably gunked up but it also bogs down if you get too aggressive with the throttle.
The emulsion tubes on it are quite probably ovaled out too which would explain why it stutters when i accelerate until 3k/rpm. Oh yeah hangs up when warm at 3k/rpm idle until i drop it manually. :(
Thats when it's not running on 3 cylinders ... :P yeah the fueling is a bit of a mess. Cyl.1 is black as plugs 2,3,4 are white and pretty lean looking...
So all in all, yeah not the best. I got the bike with it like that or i'd be using the standard carbs, needles, jets and airbox I reckon. I'm getting it tuned anyhow in a week or so i'll see how that goes. Frigin expensive i'm thinking. :crybaby:

You could carve an airbox out of foam, glass over it, then pour thinners inside it to dissolve the foam... voila, airbox!

haha yes, cyl.1 sidestand side. :bleh: i've torn down my carbs. If you have Mikuni BST series carbs then you can see how to strip them completely and rebuild/set floats here: http://www.gixxer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=148053&page=2

help please
Patience and more patience when fitting your air box and a bit of vaseline. Generally those that go to pods because they are easier to fit than the stock airbox will bite off more trouble than the pods are worth.

Well i'm happy to report my bike now purrs like a kitten.
Not without a few hassles i'll add though. used to have a high idle, still did after carb strip and thorough clean - soon as i took it for a ride I'd come to a stop and it'd be nearly on 3k! wind it back down, next set of lights same deal.
Had me mighty confused that was until i was diagnosing another problem (backfiring and intermittent loss of decent power) and checking fuel mix and idle and when revving it out i noticed the flipping remote idle adjust screw rotating on it's own! :angry2:
A quick tighten of the ziptie the previous owner had it on saw it perfect, and my newly installed fuel filter after the carb rebuild i quickly noted was only 1/3rd full and not even on an angle for fuel to reach the carbs! :eek5: talk about running lean.
Re routed the fuel lines under the carbs to drag the fuel filter downward and no more backfires, all 4 cyls all the time. haha what a muppet. So glad i've got the idle fixed, had me massively confused and annoyed.
Would pull me along at 20km/hr ffs haha.
