Is the Triumph Sprint boring?

I am thinking of my next bike. This week I rode a demo Moto Morini 9 1/2; sex on 2 wheels. How I would love to have this bike; but I need to be practical as I can probably only afford to have one bike at a time. And, I don't think the Italian animal would be the bike for any long distance riding.

Today I had a ride on a 2005 Sprint from WMC as I am thinking of a new one. It is a very good bike and after the SV1000S it was like driving a really good car; just did everything so well and smooth as smooth can be. I am left wondering, is this bike too good or have I been seduced by the V Twin thing?

Never thought of a Sprint as boring,bloody good looking bike in my opinion.The 2 bikes you have mentioned are way different......if its a mile eater you want then itd be the sprint for me.fwiw i reckon the new tiger looks the business.

Thanks Maha Man (great looking blue one) for the link to Big Dave's article on the 05ST. I like his first sentence "‘It’s not the best at anything – but it’s pretty good at everything’. A great all round package." and guess that is close to how I found it. Maybe I had expected more with some adrenaline rush thrown in, but I didn't; it is predicably a very good bike.

Unless I find something better the ST is top of my list. I want a bike with a bit of comfort for long distance stuff, still with a sporty appeal, easy to ride around town at 50kph and in stop start traffic and, when I go out to the garage and look at it I want to ride it. A naked MM9.5, Buell, etc would fit perfectly as No.2 bike, - when I can justify the spend.

I have a Tiger, which has essentially the same motor as the Sprint, and it is great. I rode a VTR1000 when I was over N.Z last and I didn't think it was anywhere near as good as the triple. Maybe you could consider the new Tiger as well.

I currently own a 2000 sprint. It is a great bike. Not quite as quick or grunty as my old GSXR1100 but much more comfortable.

I have heard it described in the past as a young mans tourer or an old mans sports bike. So it sits nicely in the middle.

It still is tons quick enough to get me into really bad trouble with the wee men with the ticket books. :scooter:

I'd go the Italian, obviously, and no reason you can't tour on it. Go on, be different, buy the Moto Morini.:scooter:

The seat on the Tiger is too high for me. Otherwise it would be an option.

Dropped my bike off @ AMPS yesterday (long story, but won't go there) & was kindly given an 05 ST with just 3800k's on the clock to come home on. Well it rainned the whole way home & the ST didn't embarrass itself or me the whole way home. Riding an unfamilar bike in not ideal conditions, I really dig that engine, happy to cruise @ the speed limit in top with no snatchyness whatsoever & just accelerates away to get passed those pesky tin tops (& trucks) that are kicking up horrible fine mist.So will be spending time dialing in the suspension this weekend & bring on some dry roads please.:yes: Good luck making up your mind !

Those criteria are why I chose the Blackbird! I think that a new B/B can currently be bought for around $15500 which is great value for the performance. Both bikes are superb and virtually bullet-proof.

oldish thread but wtf. I almost bought a Sprint (thanks Mark WMC) sort of recently. I had a similar dilemma. I came back thinking it was like a big appliance. But in a good way. I love things that work well (Like my Westinghouse Fridge/freezer with the horizontal doors & the fast cool drinks timer, different league to the late model F&P I had).

I'd be happy to own one. One day I will own one I think. Really is a great bike even if it doesn't set your pants on fire.

I ended up going down a completely different path & decided to upgrade my sportbike rather than my tourer.

So in conclusion buy the Westinghouse. Um, er. . .

Its funny I rode the sprint last year and thought the motor was bland, and the bike generally lardy with too soft suspension for anything but gentle riding.

I fell in love with it when it was launched, but disappointed when I rode it.

One mitigating point, we were test riding the k6 gsx-r750 at the same time. All I wanted to was ride the gixer (till I tried to stop in a real hurry).

Hi Dennisr, I just sold my personal Sprint ST (955). It was a great bike, lots of fat midrange power and a good top end. Chuck a sporty set of tyres on it and you will be able to embarress a lot of "sports bikes" with it. Genuine 150mph with a pillion or 160mph without. Good brakes too. The great thing about them is they do everything well and nothing poorly. Comfort level is high for both rider and pillion. Fairing gives great weather protection. Good build quality and nice and reliable.
I would definitly recommend one.

Hey there. I too am an owner of a Triumph Sprint. Similar to you I wanted something I could tour with as i was close 2 a 2 week tour of the North Island. I didnt want a cruiser (ya cant lean em) wanted something sporty but didnt want to have to ride smothering the tank for 300 ks. My bike is perfect for me. I need pannier bags to put all my clothes in. It handles well and is forgiving (Im a newbie) Ive riden gxers harleys....but very happy with my bike. Shes heavy not as quick but very comfortable on long rides. The trimuphs are like females though....... tempremental engine wise and bitch without warning. Simple things electronically will stop the engine (safety feature) and will require going to the shop. Mine died after riding 3 hours to the west coast from chch with out warning. Sensor light shut down the bike completely. But hey if I didnt work for my bike what the hells worth working for . hehehehe

Still got the ST1050 & took her out for a 800ish k trip on Saturday & had a ball. Roads where wet for the first 40mins of the ride & my mate that was following me on his Tuono reckons the Bridgestones where pumpimg the road dry.Met up with the Ducati owners club from up North @ the Wharepapa Rockclimbing cafe & rode back to the Naki via Mangakino,Bennydale & then down the coast. Must say the ST did very well and was very comfortable. I would definetly reccomend one of these machines but just not for me for where I am @ present !:Punk:
