Mark Hopkins, a web designer for MXGN – who supply Motor Cycle News with web services – has been given a suspended sentence after being found guilty of hacking into a rival publication’s website.

Hopkins, of Bromsgrove, hacked into ME Publishing’s site – ME publish rival publication Motorcycle Trader – and removed ‘a large amount of internal information’. A team of web consultants employed by ME Publishing traced the attack to the Solihull office of Hopkins' company, NXGN. Hopkins was then arrested for a breach of the Computer Misuse Act by the Metropolitan Police.

Hopkins was sentenced to 20 weeks in custody suspended for two years, must serve 100 hours of community service and pay £5,000 compensation, plus £2,500 for police and prosecution costs.
