They missed a line "Speed was a possible factor in the accident"

That's the standard footer on all press releases

SH1 will remain closed until 2.00pm while police carry out a scene examination at the fatal accident.
The location is about 14 kms south of Waiouru.

Also, Manawatu Gorge - big slip and down to one lane, big delays expected.

The location is about 14 kms south of Waiouru.

Had a work colleague, his wife and two kids wiped out on that road, about 7km south of Waiouru. This one looks like its at the place where the old ICE signs were. Those two killer corners have beeen straightened out now but they're almost exactly halfway between (13.8/15.1km) Waiouru and Taihape's 28km stretch.

It would really make your day having to go via the Paraparas and Wanganui!. Waiouru-Welly is 261km, via Wanganui is 341km and I reckon a good 20km/h slower average too

yeh, plus i think theres at least one minor slip on the paras [article in the paper last week] and they never really fixed it right after the slips/washouts, so any more rain will only make that worse.
