Here's an amazing site I stumbled upon, http://www.quikmaps.com
You can doodle or draw on a map using google maps, and then it generates code so you can paste it into your post, like this. So useful!
You can fix meeting places, draw the entire route, zoom out and in, change from photo to map mode, and all sorts of stuff.
Google maps have seen what the quikmaps people are doing and will soon release a version of their own too.
Go to the quickmaps site (http://www.quikmaps.com) and have a play, no need to register.
It is probably not dialup friendly.

Another - longer route......more fun - about 200km (I think). Avoids most of the main roads. plenty of sweepers, some twisties, a few hoon strips if you are that way inclined. Lots of pictureskew bits as well...bit over two hours at sensible speeds.......

Hi there... just a note that you can now do this same thing with Google Maps... (http://maps.google.co.nz/)... This is the ride that we are going on on Thursday:
http://maps.google.co.nz/maps?f=d&saddr=Tauranga,+Bay+of+Plenty&daddr=Putaruru+to:Mangakino+to:Turangi+to:Waiouru+ to:Taihape+to:Bulls+to:Levin+to:Palmerston+North+t o:Waipukurau+to:Hastings+to:Napier,+Hawkes+Bay+to: Taupo+to:-38.376115,176.347046+to:Rotorua+&ie=UTF8&z=7
If you check out the link above, you can add places and pull the routes around the place etc... quite cool.

Try Google maps on its own as you can simply type in start and end locations and it will draw the line for you. If you don't like fine grab the line and drag it to where you want it. It will then re work out directions and distance. Planning a long trip well then add more destinations...

I have a question....or 2
#1 How do I change a mapsource route from a gdb file to a kml (or similar) so I can open it in Google earth/maps ?
#2 Then how do I attach it to a post ?
Please explain slowly so I can understand :D
