My race report
Aims and Goals
* Keep smooth
* Learn the new track
* Stay upright
* Qualify ok
My main goal for the day was to keep smooth and see what happened.
Got to the track nice and early and signed in, notice there were a few damp spots
Just like last time. My aim for qualifying was to quickly learn the new track and hopefully put in a not so lap.
My thoughts at the time were, don't do what you did last time.
(Crash in the first lap of qualify)
Qualify
I rode out onto the track eager to learn the track quickly and hopefully get a fast lap in.
Went around the old part with ease, watching not to get too fast too quickly.
Had the back slide out on me around splash a little bit, but didn't care at all.
Quickly learnt the new part of the track but was not very confident with the rough patches over the sweeping left hander what goes on to the main track. That part plagued me all day.
Managed to qualify 12th, wasn't too happy with that but at least I was just behind my arch rival jas, and boy did she show that she didn't want to lose to me that day ;).
First Race
Got a crappy start as usual (still got to practice them!) but managed to gain loads of places after the first corner.
Followed Andy in to the new part and then he pissed off, taking a couple places.
Just aimed to relax and stay upright. Realized I could brake really hard into the tight right handers in the new sections. Loved the new 90deg right hander.
Red flag came out, and went to the restart grid.
First Race – Restart
Had a pretty good start for once, only got overtaken by a ZXR and was quite happy with this, didn't gain as many places as I wished but that's ok I wasn't too badly placed.
Following Jasmine around for a while, she over took a guy who had the funniest lines and I couldn't manage to do the same thing, luckily for me she suddenly slowed down coming into the new section in lap 2.
Ended right up her ass after the right hander. She broke early and I attempted to go on the inside of her coming into the tight right hander.
Bike fully tipped over inches away from her, managed to get in front of her.
Until I hit the gas, the back just let go because I was probably leant over to far.
I saw a bike wheel heading towards me and couldn't really do anything, got thrown around (don't really know what happened, happened far to quick) and ended up a little bit under her bike.
Dived for the grass (That must of looked so funny), and was kinda shocked. Took my helmet off what felt like it took forever but apparently it was a new record for fastest to get a helmet off acroding to jas!
Rode the bike back :).
Surpising i wasnt that scared about the crash, but thats probably because it didnt hurt (Weird huh!) and i dont remeber it in awesome detail :(. Got very lucky!, she must of hit me at maybe 60kmh.
What i was thinking afterwards
Didnt know what had happened too greatly and decided just to go out there in the next race and have fun.
Second and Final Race
Had an ok start! (Im getting better at those), but i admitally rolled forward a bit because i couldnt see the flag (hopefully i qualify better so i can see the flag next time ;)).
Relaxed and just got in a good grove, took a couple people on the first few corners and relaxed in behind jasmine, followed her for a bit and got her coming out of one of the corners in the new part.
Held her off for a lap or so trying to create a gap (but that didnt work).
Got in a really really bad line coming into the left sweeper what goes on to the normal track.
Knee down lean angle and seeing the little rumble strip coming up wasnt a nice feeling.
Relaxed, decided it wasnt worth the risk steped the bike up and ran off the track, jump a couple gears and took off again.
Only lost one place and i made a good decision in my oppion as i knew i would of lowsided it if i took it at that lean angle.
What i was thinking after
Was really happy i didnt crash it and was really relaxed, wasnt too pleased with my place but im glad i can see things coming a bit more now.
Thanks ALOT to the vic club for letting me contiuesely crash i mean race there bikes (seriously awesome :))
ALOT TO ANDY, for organizing everything (sorry ive been slack with the stands)
And everyone else who have given me tips... Jas's mum, jas, luke, andy (again), steph (keep it up buddy :)), luke, avalon, doug, ivan and glen.
Probably forgotten alot more other people so sorry if i have :(.
