So the weather finally lifted over the central plateau on Wednesday afternoon. Stoked, cos I had dragged the bike up from Wellington hoping to get a break in the weather while I was working in Waiouru.
I was only able to get access to two zones close to Waiouru camp so I made the choice to belt 20km up SH1 to the Tukino skifield road for the 14km climb to the top. Heaps of fun - a bit slippery on the formed road, but great to let her power slide through a couple of corners. Didn't exactly hang around at the top - t'was a tad chilly.
So back down, onto SH1 and down to Access Road 17 and back through zones 23 and 17 of the training area for a few hill climbs. Bit of a handful with the DOT4 front...sliding everywhere in the muck and liable to drop without notice.
All in all a sweet as afternoon out - 80km in total, photos will tell the rest.
