Been almost 11 weeks now since I was knocked of my bike on the way to the Brass Monkey. Cosmetic mainly damage but im still waiting for parts from Japan. Anyone else had problems with parts arriving or is the fact its a US import making it difficult?

I had a few issues waiting for parts ex Japan for my 250 Bandit after my minor off. It's an import too - I was without that bike for longer than I care to recollect...

Hi Primemeat, sorry to hear you had a problem with your Suzuki parts. Could be the fact that your machine is an import. Have you checked out availability on the NET? Cheers.:(

being repaired through Ian Day via the "giveway cutters" insurance company. So I have no input as to where the parts are sourced. Wouldnt be upset except that its been their all this time....

Hi
Parts take 7-10 days ex Japan regardless of whether it's an import or not.
Japan runs out of parts not that often and they B/O stuff quick anyway - Normally it's the people you deal with here that are the delay - I have heard this happen a lot over the years.
Suzuki's service is very good.
Sometimes the quality is lacking though - mainly with Ex China parts.
Stuff Ex Suzuki USA takes longer but most parts are sourced via Japan.
Maybe they are not going through Suzuki new?
Cheers

are blaming Suzuki for the delay. I have just found out that the fairings havnt even been painted yet!. I wont be dealing with these guys again. On the brighter side they are just waiting for the indicators so told them I want the bike back with the old ones(taped on probabley) until they arrive.

My 8-10 days from Japan took 8 weeks (after I grizzled & they ended up airfreighting it) just for some seals.

Fork stanchions, fork seals, air filter, dust seals. All ex-Japan. 10 days from request to pick up. I dOn't have much trouble getting stuff ex-Japan.

That's pretty much correct, although parts from Japan generally take 10 days to 3 weeks.
However, if it's something unusual or old they may well have run out of stock, in which case it goes on back order and can take months. Depends on when more are actually fabricated.
The main problem is that often the person ordering the part doesn't actually know what they're doing. Air freighting a part doesn't cost the shop or the customer extra, Suzuki soak up that cost. Often the person ordering it will put it on a stock order (can take up to a week as stock orders are low priority) and because it's not available it goes onto back order from Japan. Items on Stock orders that go on back order are super low priority, meaning sea freight and hence taking months.
If you are ever told that your part has to come from Japan make absolutely certain they air freight it.

Isn't just suzuki that are dragging the chain on importing parts. I had similar experiences getting honda parts too.

Another reason to have only 3rd party insurance. The yearly premiums on a GSXR1100 or similar would buy you another one in 3-5 years.

Sounds like the shop is the prob.
A lot of M/C parts people are busy people on low pay so the service can suffer.
The bike shops obviously don't think parts is important to their business.
You make sure you tell the shop what you think of their service.
I can imagine there will be plenty of "stories' of why you had to wait..
Cheers

have been plenty of stories. I rang AMI and told them I was not happy. They started some investigation and got the ball rolling. They were going to patch it up for me so I could go on a rally last weekend but they had had it so long the WOF had expired and not quite warrantable. Fingers crossed for this week!
