Hah! We can start a '$300 and 40 points' club. If you show me your ticket, I'll show you mine...
:buggerd:
Go on, share the juicy details so that we may chide you for your recklessness and/or commiserate upon the evilness of the Fuzzy Plodding Ones.
I do hope, for the sake of style, that you were travelling upon one wheel at the time.

How, what, where, when, why...? Weeeeellll....
I went on the "Ride North", and because the lovely Mrs FS was co-piloting, I was taking it easy. Ish. You know - sub-light velocities and all that.
And the road-racers left us behind, we didn't know where to go, so we took our own tourist route. As you do.
Coming back from a lovely visit with Mrs FS's auntie in Waipu, my knees was tired, and we wanted to get home to cook dinner and go out to a show (soon. Must hurry.) so we took the highway.
Got stuck behind a road pig (aka 4WD) and was getting buffeted about, so at the first opportunity, it was "Warp Speed, Cap'n!!) Got pinged by a Klingon Bird of Prey's photon torpedo. It was parked in some lay-by near Warkworth, and decloaked aft of us a few kms later. Warp 132, apparently.
The Klingon officer was actually very polite and amenable, but:whocares:
First speeding ticket since the last one (29 years ago...) {SIGH....}

Weeeeellll....
That's not so bad, really. Mostly because Mrs FS was present, understands the reasons and is no doubt sharing in the indignation and misery, rather than sitting on the other side of the lounge right now feeling morally superior and giving you the Look.
You were a whole kilometer-per-hour less than I was over the limit, too. And in much less danger of murdering small children, etc.
I think I got more lawless-behaviour-per-buck than you did for the $300, to be honest.
Is Mrs FS going to add this to your motorcycling expense records for the year, then?

Bummer mate, did you not see us at the servo in wellsford?
The rest of our trip was not drama free either,As you will find out.
The rest of them turned around in mangawhai & us 3 from north carried on.
Good to see the KBers who turned up for the ride.

You shouldn't have said anything at lunch yesterday about your amazing good fortune. The Greeks call it "hubris". I think I may have warned you...
And as you know last weekend I picked up my first speeding ticket in 32 years. This synchronicity is spooky... What's happening out there???

Methinks I need to disrobe and prance within the meadows at early morn to gather the morning dew from buttercups. Then pour into a copper, add leg of frog, eye of newt and sprinkle with lizard testicle dust. Chant the mantra while stirring then drink the sacred potion to ward off evil spirits and bad luck.
Now you all know what to do next time in order to ward off bad karma and shit :msn-wink:

But then, I think I gave him a bigger shock by not looking like jrandom.
In fact, perhaps we should hand a prize to Milky for being the only KBer who, upon introduction, provokes an "of COURSE..." reaction.

Sorry we lost ya,we stopped at the servo for quite a while too. We'll be doing the trip again some time(maybe do the whole thing....)so we'll see ya then eh? Well, Mrs FS said there were some bikes at the servo, when we stopped on the corner, but I looked, and the ones I saw didn't look like you guys.
I had no idea where you guys were going, so I thought you'd either fucked off into the distance at warp speed, or turned off somewhere. Anyways, we felt like we were gate-crashers on the ride, so we headed North, turned off at the Mangawhai turnoff, and went up the coast to Waipu. Absolutely brilliant! I'd done the reverse ride once before, and we had an absolute blast.
Then we had afternoon tea with Mrs FS's cousin and Tante Nellie, then came back the main road way, because time was tight and my knees were complaining. I nearly turned off at Kaipara Flats, and wish I had now.
Can't complain really, as I wasn't being controlled, and should've remembered that stretch between there and Orewa was crawling with cops on the weekends. Just lucky I didn't get pinged for 180....
Mrs FS was very good about it. She's great, and REALLY enjoyed the ride, especially the bit just south of Langs Beach, which was terrific.

Next time, I won't wear disguise - I'll dress in my usual rolled-up trou and shirtsleeves, and hanky on head.
In fact, MikeL and JRandom didn't say anything on our second meeting on Friday (maybe they didn't notice), but I don't recognise myself either, as I'm clean-shaven for the first time in a very long while... :spudwhat:

On the contrary, I found them all to be a very friendly bunch! Maybe everyone was a bit standoffish at the beginning, which is normal on all rides I've been on, but when we stopped in Wellsford we all had a good chat...and off course we talked some more during our stop at Maungawhai Rd.
Then there's the "online persona" thing where some people are different in person than they are online in KB! I must admit it is weird meeting someone for the first time in the flesh when you've been communicating with them directly/indirectly nearly every day for months on end!

Thats funny you got that impression.Well, I'm not an extroverted type of guy, but was looking forward to meeting some KBers. When we turned up at the servo, everyone seemed to be socialising, yet no-one came over and said "Hi!", so I went into the group, and said (because I couldn't catch anyone's eye), "So who are we all?" Draco introduced herself, as did Lou, then Zed, and that was it (as far as I remember). Draco pointed out a few peoples to me, and then we were off. I thought, "Oh well - at tleast we can catch up with folks at the coffee stop, if we have one.." This was Mrs FS's first meeting with biker types, and after me raving about all the 'meetings' I've had with people on-line, and biker commaraderie in general, that you weren't as friendly as she expected, and perhaps we were 'on the outer' because I was the only one with a pillion. Subsequently she asked (when we missed you guys at Wellsford) if it was a nuisance that we were slower than the group, and said I could go faster if I wanted to.
Maybe everyone was a bit standoffish at the beginning, which is normal on all rides I've been on, but when we stopped in Wellsford we all had a good chat...and off course we talked some more during our stop at Maungawhai Rd
This is only the third group ride (not counting the Honda Owners Club, back in the 70s) I've been on, and can't honestly say it was any less friendly than others.
Are we as bikers less friendly than the general populace?

There's no need to have seperate rides for fast and slow,it's just unfortunate that firestormers first group ride with us went badly for him.As I said,we wait for everyone at places, unfortunately he missed us.No-one grumbles about waiting,we're used to it.We also had none of our 250 boys with us this time,a couple of whom would prolly have been glad to have the company.

Come down to Wellington sometime, we'll look after you. Because I always seem to be a busy man I have only been on two KB rides and this was the last one I was on http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showthread.php?t=4971 and generally most people were very friendly. We spent time talking before departure, made sure we regrouped regularly and ate together. Couldn't ask for better than that really. That is Lynda lets the rest of us say a few things sometimes.
I ride occasionally in other groups too (with Lynda in e-riders and with Ulysses) and the KB team ride was much the same as I experience on the other rides, with Ulysses being a shade bureaucratic in comparison.
So I have no complaints. We didn't have to worry about WT racing off into the distance because he was wasted from the night before - see first pic in that series.

I realised we were riding slower than the group, and just accepted that.
Getting split off from the group was probably my fault, for not confirming what the route was, and where the stops were.
Mrs FS was a little concerned that because she was a non-rider that that somehow confirmed a different status on us, but I reassured her that wasn't the case.
What's put me off more than anything was getting a ticket. I wasn't too bummed out about it at the time, but this morning was my first ride since Saturday, and I felt somewhat paranoid riding to work. It made me realise that at least part of the enjoyment I get from riding comes from "illicit activities". A bit of a worry, that is.:spudwhat:

Well, carry on as before, then. A ticket, not a ticket, chances of bad things happening subsequently stay the same.
Of course, if you're admitting that your behaviour was the result of silliness, hoonitude and naughty immaturity, which you have now been snapped out of... WELL! I have nothing but disgusted opprobrium for you, I'm afraid.
