A sobering thought for you...

Sometimes we are so lucky that we take many things for granted, and every now and again, something happens and you think, Jeeez I am so 'lucky'.

Example.

A very good and special friend of mine has twin siblings. Both of them need an organ transplant. This friend is a perfect match and can offer one 'organ'. The mother of the twins was also going to do the same but has just been told that she is not a viable donor. So the issue this friend of mine now has is which brother do you offer the life saving treatment to as no other matches can be found.

Jeeezus how the hell do you make that decision, how do you live with that decision afterwards, all the what ifs and such like. They are both in exactly the same stage of the illness so you cant say one needs it more than the other.

So if you think that youve had a bad day, or even morning, like we all do from time to time, maybe, just maybe we are the very lucky ones.

I don't believe in luck but I do like to remind myself of where I stand next to others. It's good to reflect on things like this to put problems into perspective.

I guess it depends on their age. If old enough talk to them and explain. They may make the decision.

If it was me, I would discuss or if that was not an option, give one the organ and use whatever medical help is available to help the other sibling until a suitable donor orgain is found.

The biggest mistake you can make is not making a decision. Yes it is bloody hard but loosing both is harder and not fair on the twins.

Funny thing is that I have actually thought about what I would do if I was told I could give life to Nats but it would mean sacrificing my life..........if Nat was okay about it I would gladly sacrifice my own life..........if not that would be fine too.

Good thought, i guess your right people generally don't know how good they have it untill they take situations like these into account!, I'm definately one that does'nt seem to appreciate how good i have it. But after reading threads like this, it tends to churn up thoughts in my ever so complicated mind.

I feel just sick at the very idea. And although I know that eventually, Mother Nature will take back what is hers (aka: natural selection), as a mother I have no clue as to what I'd do!
