Thanx for all your comments peeps - I am as excited as an excited thing and REALLY impatient to get this tie rod milled out a bit so that I can RIIIIIIIIDE it properly (well the riding is actually not an issue - but the periodic stops tend to get me EVERY time ....

Still - if it takes too long, it won't be the first time I have had people hold the bike up for me so I can take off and then have them catch me (and the bike!!) at the other end ...:gob:)

He he he - I was thinking people would be so busy looking at the stunning centre piece they wouldn't notice!! :eek5:

Yes well, there was mention of getting it up the stairs to the bedroom but I decided against it as I am going to be pretty risk averse for a wee while :sweatdrop ha ha ha

I did however have the foresight to ensure that I was insured for track days should I want to take it out :gob:

SIDENOTE: Little plug here for kiwibike insurance who have provided awesome cover with very little in the way of excess. Fantastic premiums $$ as well , outperforming all other companies that I tried

Ha ha ha - good call :sunny:

So does doggie mind having to share the heater?

Max is pretty damned cool actually - he wanders around the bikes even when they are being revved.

I used to pop him on the seat of 'Patrick' and rev it up so he would get used to the noise - later on I would pop him on the seat of the race Ducati's (748 and 749) and regardless of the bike, the vibration, the db level, he never even flinched. I think he thinks it is his bike :sunny::sunny:

Hmmm, so what did you have to do to reward yourself with a pressie like that?
My idea of being nice to myself usually only involves a few minutes in a private place with some dubious reading material, so I can see I'm going to have to raise my expectations somewhat.....

Thanks chickie :sunny: and good to see that you got it in the right order, although I must admit I was really tempted to take it out yesterday for a wee spin around the block :nono: but good sense prevailed (more like good memory - cause 'just taking it around the block' got me in a whole heap of trouble the last time I had a bike to ride - eh? :shit::gob:) ha ha ha

That is a piece of 'art on wheels'! My mate Dacosmo (on this site) has one, it's simply gorgeous. And like most beautiful things, they're to be enjoyed to the full and not just looked at.

White carpet? Beware of pets dogs with worms - I saw a terrier leave a 40cm streak of shite on a white shagpile carpet, little fucker raised its hind legs and pulled itself along the carpet using its front legs at a posh party in Ellerslie .
I practically prolapsed with laughter as the owner frantically tried to stop said pooch!
Oh, once again congratulations - she's a keeper!

What is involved in lowering the bike and by how much can the seat height be dropped? Does this reduce the handling capability?

I love the look of the bike. Too aggressive for an old fella like me - enjoy.

Well, today is the first time I have been back on a bike since my accident (Easter weekend).

To say that I am impressed with my new toy would be a MAJOR understatement. :niceone::bleh::drool::drool::drool:

Just one more aftermarket part to finish the picture ...... a radar detector may well be in order....

:devil2::thud::not:

surfchick
10th September 2007, 21:05
yup almost impossible to keep under 100 - it's practically stalling at that speed in 4th ;) radar detector def. in order. mind the dudes with short haircuts with hairdryers pointed at your red bullet :Police: i realised the other day that I' couldnt' remember the last time I had mine in 6th so I clicked up two gears to it on the motorway just to see. well that didn;t last long ... need either the race track or salt flats for that...

also i didn't realise you had to go through so much to ge the height ok. they pretty small bikes with narrow waists so i thought it'd be sweet... the one i was feeling a wee bit short for was the superduke - it's the only one that feels like a driveway might get the better of me if i had to break in the middle and put the feet down...

Her_C4
10th September 2007, 21:31
Yep - I know what you mean - I was trying to slow him down going down the hill and it was like trying to rein a couple of nervous race horses that were keen to get going.... :spanking: a race track would be just the thing to use all those other gears.....

It is the 999s and more - and more .....

Fantastic.. just fantastic - sigh :2thumbsup

Yes, a lot of people that are shorter than me actually have longer legs and so don't quite understand my predicament. BUT all sorted now and now I have a decent grip on the ground.

Here is pic of my revamped boots - hope they have come out ok...:baby:

Hitcher
11th September 2007, 08:47
One of the tricks to built-up soles on boots (as Mrs H discovered) is the shaping of the instep. If it's too narrow the boot acts as a clothes-peg and can't be easily moved for shifting gear or braking. After having had hers built up (a few sparkles on them and Elton John would have been envious), she had the extension halved for riding practicality reasons. It's a great solution, however, for those with Ducks' Disease.

Seriously though Finn... how tall are you? As Her_b4 and I are both just over 5ft.... but a few inches taller can makes a huge difference on a bike, and I reckon what she has done 100% achieves that.

Finn
11th September 2007, 09:31
Seriously though Finn... how tall are you?

6ft 10 on the inside, 5ft 10 on the outside.

The perfect size for a biker.

Joni
11th September 2007, 09:34
5ft 10 on the outside.Well that makes you a giant next to me  Not sure why people call you short?!

SDU
11th September 2007, 13:17
the one i was feeling a wee bit short for was the superduke - it's the only one that feels like a driveway might get the better of me if i had to break in the middle and put the feet down...

LOL - it's every drive on any bike (except a scooter maybe) that gets me.......

BUT all sorted now and now I have a decent grip on the ground.

Thanks for the piccie. How comfy is it to change gear.

LOL - it's every drive on any bike (except a scooter maybe) that gets me.......

Thanks for the piccie. How comfy is it to change gear.

Actually, once the gear lever was adjusted it was very comfortable. Don't forget though that I ride with the balls of my feet on the foot pegs so I will always have to move my foot to change gear. The benefits of being to comfortably touching the ground with more than big toe (or nothing!!) on one side far outweigh any inconvenience of not being able to feel the foot peg/gear lever to any great degree .

I have been advised though of a relatively easy solution regarding the lack of sensation from such a huge wad of a sole, and that is to make a smallish circular cut in the bottom of the sole up to just short of the boot sole. The movement of this piece against the bottom of your foot will provide the necessary feedback. :2thumbsup

you have to post back a ride report on your puppy - its 30kg or summit lighter than mine!! i'd have to jetteson half the engine to gt to the weight.... must corner like a wee AVgas powered feather...
