I too have had bikes since the early 80's But its taken all this time and my last "investment" to REALLY get the juices flowing, recent you beaut weather helped plenty too. Im also finding over the hilltops to Akaroa the best quick blast as all other routes outta Chch are all flat straights riddled with revenue collectors! Anyhoo don't be shy and say hi. Welcome - some how on that beast I think I'll mainly be seeing your rear pipes! Keep an eye out on the way to Little River for mufti cars - they tend to do a blitz around there in the weekends once a month or so during the summer. Once it warms up I get up early and hit the route about 7-7.30am - you pretty much get the road to yourself........oh yeah!
