First decent ride...

Been riding my Bandit 250 for two'n a half weeks and 900km so far, and been loving the experience. So when a beautiful day like today appeared, a mate and myself decided to ride down to Hamilton and take advantage of the weather. :)

The ride was good fun, although the long straights got dull quickly, but halfway back to Auckland disaster struck - coming up to a red light, I bring the bike to a stop and put my boot out. Unfortunately as soon as I touch the ground I feel my foot slide out on what I thought was some gravel, although Steven later said he saw a patch of oil there. Picked the bike up quickly, and wheeled her over to the side.

A quick damage report turned up some scratches to the fuel tank, whatever the engine bit is that stick out on the left side (I'll find out eventually I suspect), and the clutch lever bent down and missing the last 1-2 centimetres. Nothing to stop me riding back, which we proceeded to do.

What'd I learn? Bikes are fun, long straight roads are not, and watch out for gravel/oil before you put your boot down! :)

we all learn... somehow :) glad to hear it is not too major.

Also watch where you put the wheel and your foot. those oil patches are evil... specially when wet.

Yes, I've been careful not to stop on the oil as having that stuff coat your front (or rear) wheel would not help; I just didn't think it'd be slippery enough for my boot to slide out! :)

Lucky it was a cheap lesson aye, good your not hurt or the bike worse.

Better to learn the lesson prior (unlike I did :innocent:)

Motorbikes only have one numberplate, on the back. So a photo of the front of the bike isn't necessarily incriminating.
