I know these discussions about 250s have been had before, but I was wondering if anybody who currently runs a VTR 250 could offer any fresh opinions, etc. My brother is looking to purchase one. He decided that this was his bike after looking at it and also the GSX, Hyosung GT and the GPX. It's a nice looking bike. I had a VT250F years ago and it was good. I got a better run out of that than most did by the sounds of things! I loved it. Cheers!

What year VTR250? I just sold mine in April. It was a 2003.

I would heartily recommend this bike to a learner.

Hahaha - buy a Ducati mate. It's the best next step from a VTR250. I have no regrets whatsoever - mind you I've only managed 6,000 km in 3 months.

Sweet bikes dude! Lots of old er ones out there and have to not get a thrashed one but thats an old bike thing not a VTR thing. Really linear and nice 'box on them are the impressions I have from time on them.

I hope they are good. I'm getting my 1998 model tomorrow.
My partner who rides a VTR1000 was (moderately) impressed with it. Just getting a couple of tweaks - heated handgrips and a packrack put on so I will have it just in time for the weather to turn nasty again.

Have had mine (a 1998) since May and have been very happy with it. Have just put about 2000km's on it on 3 months of weekend riding. I really have fun with it around the twisties - even at my level of experience! Like the V twin.

Ride my VTR250 for two months now. She has never disappointed me(not including when I ride with mate's 2007 6R, haha.), Easy to ride, best looking new 250 in my opinion, well, the CBR250RR looks nice too, but its too old, not good for learner who knows little about bike mechanics.

Reason: my friend learn to drive in a crap car, she was so surprise that when she drives a friends car, she said the car must be a good car, it doesn’t shake at all when she use the brake........What the! Found out her "Learner car" have serious problem with the front brake. One side has worn too much. Instead of getting the car checked, she developed a perception that it’s normal that car shake a little bit when you brake. Seriously, this can happen to a lot newbie. Like myself, I thought my VTR250 has big problems; sometime the engine kills itself for no reason. In fact, the new bikes have protection called ”If-your-stand-is-still-on-you-will-kill-the-engine-when-you-shift-gear”.

Well, short conclusion, VTR250 is good, go for it :)

Best luck for getting a nice learner bike!
