Wihoooooooooo

The New Zealand Film Archive in Wellington is showing a lanesplit video-bike-cam dual-video projection art in their art gallery space from this thursday-made by surfchick and starring the back-end of a certain well known rf900...:devil2:

The two video's play a long lane-split (cheers MDU) with cameras filming from the rear of the RF900 and from the front of the ducati 996 - the two cams-views get played back beside eachother in realtime so the viewers can see the split from the POV of both bikes.

COME TO THE SHOW ON YA BIKE:
Wellington KB crew- you are soooo invited to the opening night of this exhibition- some bike-video art, wine and some food etc - This thursday night (30th Aug) Entry is FREE. The address is NZ film archive:84 Taranaki Street, Wellington

Actually the gallery is amped to have a motorcycle work in their space and is totally into you all turning up in your leathers :) It'd be primo to overrun the opening of the art show with bikes arriving outside :) Motomart is even loaning a 996 for the winow display to get the punters keen. I'm amped to meet any of the Welly crew that's around as I'll be at the opening event (thu night) cause my real-day job is artwork.

If there is enough interest in motorcycle-based video-art I'll be able to make some bigger, better, faster video-works hopfully with Jill and a few others later this year.

Thanks a million MDU and Bugjuice for the tests and shoots that you were part of earlier. vrooooooooom:love:

LOL at last the answer to the burning question... "Does my arse look big on this?"

SC - I'll pop round sometime and see the final footage if ok with you - or does it hit Auckland at some point? (Npothing personal but I'd love to see it on the big screen!)

crew!!
the opening starts at 5.30 and runs till about 6.30

apparantly there is a chance nightline is covering the opening SO
arrive on your bike and park it outside the front of the film archive all in a nice neat row and you'll probably get your bike on TV :)

don't park rigght by their sliding door though as we might be trying to get the 996 into the space...

righty tv3's nightline will be covering this event -

We'd love the wellington biker crew to be on TV- and get ya bike on TV.

the art event runs from 5.30 till 6.30.
we'd love it well attended by riders, the art is one thing, but actually real bikers riding around and parking up is alot more noisy and shiny!! the cameras will be hungry for images of the bikes

if i can get an idea of who might be arriving on their ride - we might be able to do a group circle of the small block that the film archive is in and arrive together

post back if you think you'd like to circle the block a few times and arrive all at once and park up - was thinking we ight do this just before 6.00 - can anyone make it at 5.30 ish to meet up with me and plan a weee block group pass-by?

I have an "RF900 Super Commuter????". Would that be an upgrade - coz it sounds remarkably scooterish to me!

ha ha i had to make the rf900 sound totally suited to the task of lane splitting - rather than the corner chewing open-road-cruncher that it really is... ;):devil2:

ps. the 35L top-box makes your asse look small actually :)
the breaklights are indeed a sight to behold-but i was glad you had them so as not to hit you when you evaded the bus...

Paul in NZ
29th August 2007, 10:12
Not wanting to rain on your parade (I love a good pun) but thats a bit of a horror place traffic wise to try and arrange a ride around the block at 5:30... (you mean the Taranaki st corner right?)

There is NO parking around the whole corner and it's very busy at rush hour. Trying to stop there would be a bit tricky and parking on the footpath is going to be awkward as well. The up side is most of the bad traffic is on the other side of the road heading up to the bypass...

There is a motorcycle park 200yds away on the Taranaki / Dixon st corner (by the vert bungy) but gym people always park on it after hours and I'd be reluctant to park a bike there after 6:30 due to the wonderful pub next door..

Maybe the council or Police could help??

Just a thought?

You'll need to make it available on DVD, I'll buy one for sure, brave guys filming your splitting! No worries about the fuzz but if it was me I'd be cringing knowing some smartass at some stage will tell ya you shoulda gone harder! Hanging out to see this!

hi paul & co-
i'll see what the traffic is like outside today as i'm in the building all day till closing re. doing a few laps-hopefully our side of the street isn't **too blocked round 5.50ish- the film archive is keen to have the row of bikes parked on the pavement of taranaki end of the ghuznee st (on the total corner of the two streets) for the opening so they can be seen from inside their big cafe on the corner during the opening. because it's an event I'm hoping not to trigger the welly parking wardens as we will be well behaved and the bikes will be in a neat angled row. the pavement is really quite wide there...

that's so funny - yeah we'll get the beats about doing it faster -we did a pretty standard split for this version as its ***very public. but we also had 15k of camera cear in our backpacks so crashing was not an option for this

Well Im leaving the work car at home tomorrow & riding in for this so if people want to ride as a group and turn up on mass we could all meet up at my work in Newtown and head on in from there or find another place close so we make a bit of an entrance.
Any thoughts folks?

flyingscotsman
29th August 2007, 15:06
We could meet in front of Te Papa? We could then ride up Tory St, along Courtney Pl, up Dixon St, along Victoria St & down Ghuznee. We could to timed laps:clap:

I agree with Str8! what about by the war memorial at the steps on Arthur St (I think its called that) By the enrty to Massey Uni?
The only hell part would be getting across the road and then down taranaki st.
I will be pasting there shortly after 5 if others want to hook there but I am open to other better suggestions

ok you guys rule!
we are definitely being covered by nightline - they actually might approach one of you to have a camera mounted to your bike for a POV shot located in wellington. I can't do it on the 996 as it's just been displayed in the window-so if any of you are keen for a bit of camera action from your bike come and find me when you arrive. i'll be wearing a B&W ICON motorcycle jacket. Also the drive by sounds awesome that your're planning. anyone additional who doesn't join that pack ride-make sure you do a few laps of the archive corner before parking up so we can see you looping from the cafe-this is your one night to pose. the cameras should be on site from 5.30 so around about then for some laps is awesome -also don't forget there's free drinks and some food :)
see you soon

Now there's an idea

It was good to meet you Surfchick and really glad you had a fanTAZtic :D time down here and that it all went to plan for you.

Would definitely be keen to get that footage off you as I didn't make the Telle even though I was the brightest one there

Thanks for the drinks and nibbles it was very generous of you and hope we can get you out for a ride when you come back down.

All the best

Taz

OMG i'd have to be a pillion - i'd have to be the sack-of-potatoes on the back! as I'm driving down so i can pick up all the gear! My computer blew up and I should have it back mid-week so hopefully then I'll be able to post back some of the group photos and the burnout soon!

Yes... I heard about the burnout.

May be keen for a ride. May have to steal a bike from work though:rockon:

I saw the size of you and I certainly wouldn't say sack of potatoes

There maybe some kind KBer down here with a spare bike. If I could have afforded to keep my 600 you'd have been welcome to use that.

All the best with the Art

Looks interesting Surfchick, is the show going to tour other main centres or other areas?

apparantly the 996 that was in the window on the opeing night has sold so motomart are replacing it with a bayliss 998:love: i wonder if they will leave the keys at reception... ;)

I'm working on getting the motorcycle part of the work to auckland. just to complete MDU's misery :devil2: then eveyone could admire the top-box :devil2: but the gallerys book so far out it will be a while before it's here in Ak i imagine.
