Hey everyone,

Big thanks to those that turned up to support us KB racers :niceone:

Well what a day, i have definately lost my jinx as the weather was awesome..... I started off the day putting a 1:21.68 in qualifying which was quicker than my best last meet, i was pretty stoked about that..... Race one started and ofcourse i was getting annialated by the 1000's and 600's.... I pushed it as hard as the RG150 could go, it felt really good, i was scrapping the pegs everywhere and having a great time...

I came back into the pits and saw my best time was a 1:20.57 !!!!!!:2thumbsup Now i was over the moon..... doing a 1:20.57 is like a 600 racer doing 1:01's or a 1000 racer doing 59's. Basically the 1:20 is the fastest an RG150 can go around Pukekohe.... Ofcourse i had to better this and get more towards a 1:20 flat... Went out and was riding really well in Race 2... got to the second lap and was in the middle of castrol when the peg dug in a bit to deep.... lifted the rear and down she went ever so gracefully....... It felt like i was doing about 5kmh it was so soft, even though i was around the 100kmh mark..... Bike was still MINT, not even scratches on the fairing, but it snapped my handle bar where it had been welded, so that was the RG's day over...

Then and awesome guy called XJ/Frosty offered his ZXR400 for me to race in clubmans.... ofcourse i had to take it (i have never ridden a 400 before other than Andrew's Ducati) set off and was feeling right at home on the bike, only had 1 lap to get used to the bike then it was into racing  But it was such an easy bike to ride, and i had a ball on it..... Got into the pits knowing i can make up time in heaps of places and was hoping for any times under 1:20. Got back to find out that i had been doing 1:13's!!!! that is around midfield in the F3 class, and it was my FIRST ride on the 400!!! I was completely overwelmed, I was so keen to break into the 1:12's but it didnt happen. Frosty's front tyre was shagged and starting to slip, so a backed off in the places where i knew i could go faster and tried to be smoother, this resulted in me dropping my time by about 0.3 seconds to get a best of 1:13.4, im really happy about that and know i have plenty in reserve....

So to round up my day, Did my best time on the RG of 1:20.57 (which is as fast as the bike will go) binned it really well and wasnt fazed about binning it... Then rode a 400 which was awesome and set a 1:13.4 on it...

Thanks for reading my round up, im sure all the other racers will do their own round up :niceone:

Yeah 1:13's is a pretty respectable F3 time especially for your first time on a bike!! Two race days ago that was my best time but you'd probably only take another session or two max to catch me.

Here are some results for Clubmans.

well said! ive only just got home from a busy day and am having trouble reading but i think my slow mind understood all :) excellent stuff and top effort on the ZXR there TS. Sorry i didnt get to watch MR really properly in any races but mate to finish a day, 1) without crashing, 2) without bike faults 3) without coming last is well enough to be commended for as there are so many ups and downs in racing.

Congratulations to Twosmoker for a brilliant performance and also to Hoon, KK and others who managed a great result.

Thanx again FF and slob for all your help and thanx to others for comming down for a watch and to support us.

P.S. I am surprised as well that you didn't come say hi, NC.

3rd October 2004, 21:57
Yup. The Man was there today with his camera & clicked through 2 rolls of film post haste. He came home grumbling about the $10 entry fee for spectators to club racing  and how hard it was to get piccies when he knew so many people out there racing today. And, of course, that he wasn't racing himself.

Meanwhile .... I was at home, enjoying the :sunny: day ..... in bed asleep after a night shift. :crybaby:

thanks ppls, F3 is getting really awesome with hoon, bruno, frosty and a few others on the scoreboard all running the same general times, i had a ball it was great to be in there too getting my fair share of overtakes and being overtaken. great days racing and thanks heaps craig (please pass it on slim) for helping me do a temp fix on the restricter wiring, also to 6chris6 and the other pitties of my own for the efforts.

Awesome effort MR considering you are still sick and had consistant lap times... YOU NEED NEW TYRES!!!! Also PT has some awesome photo's of you.....

One of the riders of the day had to be KK, who pulled a 4th in F3 class and put down a personal best of 1:10 (bloody awesome for a bike that is running less than stock HP lol)

Frosty got a 2nd in Pre 89 Juniors....

4th October 2004, 07:04
Hey congrats guys.
Actually as proud as I am with being associated with all you guys -And believe me i am -and all of you I have seen improving this hear the guy thats pretty quiet about his performabnce is HOON
I've been watching hoon this season and the end of last season and seen his riding improve by leaps and bounds -Ya notice he isn't shouting it from the rooftops but hoon got down into 1.10's yesterday and He kept with KK for most of the 3rd race of the day.
Um Ts not being pedantic-I actually crodssed the line second but the other guy was on a tZ350 so was in another class. That means -
I WON yeeehaaa
--ok but then I crashed-ahhh well

4th October 2004, 08:47
What a primo day!

Was my first time going to a race meet - and what can I say!

The weather was awesome, the riding was supurb, however i've realised im not much of a photographer, so kudos to PT for taking awesome photos over the last few meetings for us.

Was good to catch up with all the KB'ers out there. As always there were many good stories to tell.

Watching KK barrel into the first corner in 2nd place when the flag dropped, and me standing at Jennien was a highlight. Was awesome work for him to get 4th that race till bike trouble happened.

Another highlight is Hoon - After having to start in the back row of the grid after qualifying, and then managing to hammer through the field after the flag dropped and came 6th? (i think) was awesome work, then throughout the day dropping his times and posistions to 1:10 was cool as well.

Race 4 - I was sitting at the hairpin and could see all of the back straight, where i saw Hoon and KK, side by side the whole way. I was standing there thinking "Whos going to brake first!" as they flew into the hairpin. What an intense game of chicken that was ! :)

So many other highlights to mention - TS flying around on the RG and 400, Watching MR hitting the hairpin, pulling a rolling stoppie, and then saving it and going again.

They were all things that got the blood boiling! :)

Thanks guys!

Despite running last in EVERY BLOODY RACE I still had a ball. 1:19 flat was my best time, so still a fair way off, but it getting closer........
Some may have recognised me as the solo orange RGV rider in F3 (112). Had the whole track to myself :-(
I missed the KB crew, (where? Who? were yous?) Met Frosty, and the usual bunch, but missed the others. More KB shirts needed!
The biggest supprise of the day was the total lack of drama (electrical dont count) from KK!!! How does he do it? Onya KK for the good placings

AMCC Club Championships Round 2 October 3rd

Pukekohe turned on a beautiful Spring day for round 2 of the Auckland

Club Champs. Very few crashes, injuries, and no oil spills meant that all

riders received four full rounds of racing.

Formula Auckland and Formula 2 were run from combined grids and saw

the Suzuki's of Lance Lowe and John Fallwell fighting it out with Mike

Smith's Yamaha and Glen William's Kawasaki.

In Formula 2 Hayden Fitzgerald dominated on Dean Labrum's Suzuki 600.

Back from the IOM and Aussie Formula Xtreme series he easily held off

Nick Cole (Kawasaki) & Dominic Jones (Suzuki) to win all four races.

Formula 3, 125GP, Post Classics, Pre-89, Clubman's & Sidecars were well

catered for in the combined classes, six race format.

The last motorcycle race day at Pukekohe Raceway for 2004 ending on a

Yeah I'm not the only one improving tho... Most of us have seen at least a 1 sec improvement in lap times at each round. A big part of it is that us KBers are pretty closely matched and have been pushing each other along (even SVS dropped in previous round!!)

A great day, not many dramas (crashes/spills etc). Saw some demon overtaking by the 125 riders who we shared the grid with (about 25 bike total). My best was a 1m10.89s in the 2nd race. KK topped that with a 10.82 in the 3rd. 4th race saw us tip into turn one together with KK just in front, we diced a little but he was too fast for me and eventually pulled away.

Got awesome launches all day and started really well thanks to the -1 front sprocket I changed to. One thing I need to work on is my passing - I need to be more focussed and sieze any opportunities ahead of me instead of getting caught up.

Here are the F3 results for the 4 races - KBers are Hoon#109, KwakaKid#35, Frosty#2, Curious George#112, Bruno?#105.

No wonder those 125GP riders in our race were going so hard out... they were fighting for 1st/2nd!!! Ahh well the joys of running mixed 125GP and F3 on the same grid

S'all good brother, i know you didnt post the result because i might feel bad, but i think i can handle it now.

<--- Lost the game of chicken! Hahahaa

my more then fatal flaw revealed. Wasnt gunna mention it shade but i had already picked up on my below-average standerd of braking into the hairpin, i begin to haul them in around 200m possibly a touch passed @ 180 or so. never much further at all. The only extra thing i do is sometimes let go of the brakes at 100m if i think i have braked too hard and then i roll passed the person i may have been trying to outbrake and take another grab at them.

excellent day though and looking forward to more KB racing all in the 1:11's or the occasional 10's now boyz! (you too Curious George, 3 seconds aint too bad, keep that kind of smack down on your time up each time out there and itll only be a few till your in the gap too)

How the fuck do manage such a wicked time on your 400 when you are braking at the 200 mark?? If you get your braking sussed, shit, you'll be getting 1'09s or better straight away I am sure.

Two Smoker
4th October 2004, 15:44
Shit yes Logo, grow some balls when it comes to braking, you have them when you go around corners......so transfer it to the braking too.... Man 1:09's should be no problem, i took over 1 second off my best time from last round one just because of braking.... you have thos flash braided lines.... so use them...

Ohh bye the way I will fix that throttle return spring -or disconnect it as I head away from the hairpin.

Nick (900SS) was racing in F1 with vicclub for the majority of the year, but dropped back to clubmans for the last round. I managed to tail him in the first race due to drafting him down the straights. Suprised they let him into F3 though. Saying that he wasn't really too much faster than me so maybe they let him in on lap times.

When I talked to Nick on Sunday he mentioned he was pleased that AMCC let him into F3 as his times are around the 1:11's which would have seen him cruising around by himself at the back of F2 which would be his MNZ class waiting to be lapped by the F1 guys.

No Hair Racing Race Report
Auckland MC Club #2 October 3rd 2004

Auckland Motorcycle Club and Pukekohe weather turned on a great day for racing on Sunday for round 2 of the club champs. Wind was a light North-easterly and air temperature of close to 20°C gave very good conditions and with hardly any crashes or injuries and no oil spills we managed to get in a full four races plus practice for each class.

I was entered in Formula 2 again and after last months problems with a piece of metal on #1 piston, I wasn't too happy when I push started the bike and found a couple of exhaust leaks around the manifolds. Bob had a nice set of socket driven hex keys so we managed to tighten the bolts fully and no more leaks or problems for the rest of the day and the bike ran beautifully except for a bit of clutch problems on starting.

After finishing the Nationals in January on the 400, I was hoping some of my 'finely honed' race skills would translate into a new personal best at Pukekohe. I had managed to do a 68.14 sec lap back in 2000 which was fairly average for what the bike is capable of. Back in 1997 in Thundercat form Dave Cole was consistently lapping in the 61 to 62 sec times, and the following year Chris Wiltshire managed a 63 second lap. The bike weighed 168kg back then and was dynoed at 99hp. I've now got the motor in the all alloy FZR400 3TJ frame and weight is down to 154kg...so I should be able to do better than 68 secs right?

Wrong! I managed lots of low 69 sec laps with just one lap of 68.95 and finished last in every race, so when Jane turned up at trackside later in the day she was surprised to see me in a state of depression. I think my biggest problem is fear of opening the throttle too quickly coming out of corners. The 600 has a lot more power than the 400 and I'm worried about losing the rear wheel. Also, I'm not used to pulling wheelies coming out of the hairpin which is happening now with the lighter weight.

On the positive side my lap times were very consistent (so it means I'm making exactly the same errors each time) and the bike has almost the same top end as the newer 600's out there as I was pulling well into the red in 6th gear so can probably drop another tooth off the rear sprocket which would also reduce the front wheel lifting. Dave Cole watched me destroy the hairpin a few times so at least he would have had some amusement. So, I've got a little bit of work to do on the bike and lots to do inside my head before conquering the 68 second barrier but will have to wait until next year as Pukekohe track is closing for site work at the end of October.

Bob on the other hand had an excellent day, he had entered both F3 and Post Classics Pre-89 Junior classes on his 1988 FZR400 and ended up winning 3 out of the 4 Pre-89 races. Formula 3 proved much more difficult however with quite high entry numbers (24+) having a good start meant the difference of finishing in the top 10 or back 20 due to having to pass a lot of riders in a relatively short space of time. Bob was feeling pretty tired though at the end of the day after finishing 2 practice sessions and 7 races.

A huge thanks again to our sponsors...in particular Adam Inta at Henderson Motorcycles who must be giving away all his profit to us, Haldane Tyres...(those Rennsports are almost done now Chris), and WEBDES.co.nz who sponsors our web site and builds the most competitive priced sites in New Zealand. Also thanks to SSS Lodge, Alex, Corey, Haydn & Carl for pit crew.

Cheers, Greg

What tires are you using on the 600 Greg? I was #15 in F2, with GIRI written across the back of my leathers.

Sounds good to me my lap times are around 1.12's so instead of my 250 I could chop it in and get a Duc 900 ss tune it a bit say 80hp (is not to hard) and off we go.Hey,so what about people on slower lap times should they get GSXR 600's. nah thats silly,. I think they should stick to 900's.Just my opinion but 900's should not be in F3.(others may disagree but I think it's just a little bit unfair about 650cc's unfair in my case)Oooh the sour grapes of it all!.

Hi Giri, yep I saw you going past a couple of times :) I'm running Metzler Rennsports, RS-1 compound on the front and RS-2 on the rear.

Hey Greg, next time I'll come and introduce my self. Giri is my surname and my name is Sudeep. Good choice of tires by the way, I have the exact same combo. You can still go to Pukie if you can make it for the track day on the 23 October '04 to better your personal best of 68 clicks. After they do the track, I am sure personal bests for everyone will be changing as well.

Good luck with getting yourself and the bike sorted. I have a hell of a lot of work to do as well, mainly on myself.

Thanks Sudeep, sorry as soon as I posted the reply I realised that Giri is your family name. I'm feeling a bit more positive today and the 23rd would be a great opportunity to try a few different things out at the track, but I'll be away for work all that week which is a bummer.

I really like the Rennsports, I use to run slicks but they harden up too quickly so I was finding that I wasn't wearing them out before they went off. Whereas the Rennsports just keep on gripping. I'm too chicken to risk sliding the rear end right now, but hopefully I'll get back into it :)

Thanks Cajun !!! ;)

Thanks Logan, yep leg is good, able to run lightly. But left shoulder is main trouble now, seems the docs are good at bones but not so good at torn tendons etc. One shoulder is still causing grief but coming along. had a couple of road rides lately including Wgtn->Akld 2 months ago (To pick up trashed Ford Transit for next years race transporter) and did Wgtn-Waiarapa-Shannon-Wgtn last weekend 2-up ok. A bit sore after but needed to start on getting 'bike fit' again. was going to do F3 2004 Nationals (Hence van) but shoulder not reliable or strong enough so beter not.. had the leave boked and everthing etc but now cancelled.

Will probably do Nth Islands Rds though. Was pissed missing 04 Nth Island Cup & Vic Club but thats bkes for you eh.

Seems like you've come along. Just checked out your RVF progress posts. Looking good, Looks like your bike started out like my pile of... We should share secrets.

Hi Lindsay...I didn't realise you had been that badly damaged.

Hee hee, I've got a secret plan to come back and conquer F3 next year...450 kit coming for my 3TJ FZR400...but up until it's ready get as much practice/experience as I can on the 600 motor in the 3TJ chassis, then do the motor switch.

As I'm only just into the 8's on the 600, the 450 isn't going to catapult me into stardom, but it's got to be better than the old '87 400 motor I competed on last year ;)

I can't afford to do the South Island Nat's rounds this year but hope to be there for BOS & NI rounds (with my #8 number plate :msn-wink: )

So KK watch out baby !!!!

cheers, Greg

So if KK steals someone elses style and I'm trying to steal KK's style already does that mean I can get 2 styles for the cost of one?.So if the first person in this list is trying to steal the style of the rider in front then they do the same again with the style in front of them.....Hmm nah, I'm onto a winner here no doubt about it,I can feel the power now the style to the power ten type style!!.Hope it makes me go faster :niceone: :spudwave:
