35 years riding.
3 bins in 6 weeks.
First bin on the Auckland motorway 6 weeks ago. Taken out by a car.
Resulting in a scuffed up fairing and the need of new engine covers. Damaged AC joint left shoulder
2nd bin, silly little off on a very muddy road at very low speed (more like an overbalance than a bin).
Result in broken turn signal and very muddy bike. No bodily damage, pride takes a tumble.
3rd bin. Last Friday night. thought I would try out a shortcut home. Going down a hill I came to a narrow bridge. What i didnt see was the 3" drop just as I went onto the bridge and the 3" rise leaving the bridge. Over the bridge at about 60kph, susspension drops for the first 3 " drop, only 6 ft to the 3:
" rise. I've already committed to the left hand bend on leaving the bridge. Bike hits the rise and sends the bike into a major shudder. I highside over the bars and bounce down the road on my right shoulder and the side of my head. Short time later a car driver stops and assists me to get both my bike and myself off the side of the road. Must have lay there for about 5 min or so.
Helmet a write off. Damage to bike more cosmetics, seriously in need of some mounts straightened.
I go home. Shaken and stunned. Next day having trouble holding my head vertical. massive headaches. Go to my partners works do and not quite there. Stil massive headache. Sunday, absolutely knackered. Sore all over. headache still.
Today I call in sick. Go to physio for the work on my left shoulder from the first bin. Tell her about Friday night so she checks me over.
Whoaa. Two dislocated vertabra in my neck C3 and C5, depressed vertabra in the middle of my back T5, that in her opnion could be chipped. Bruising from my right eye socket to my right ear.
Headaches are from all the pain and muscle damage. I actually thought I wasnt too bad.
Back to ACC for another 6 weeks of physio.
If everything happens in three's then my lot is finished. If it doesnt then I'm screwed.
Everyone in my family telling me to give up bikes and get a car. Sod thatr for a joke. Too old to change my ways.
I'll take it easy, mend the body, repair the bike and get back on. Old bodies hurt more from accidents that if they had of happened in my youth I would have laughed off.
Biker hurt, biker humbled but still a biker.
