View Full Version : Got myself a Hornet!

So, next weekend (8th) I'm taking a road trip to pick up my new bike (well, new to me) in Taupo. The bike looks well looked after and I'm stoked to finally be able to ride.
My question is - is there anything that I should check when I pick it up that would be a show stopper?
It's got a warrant and a rego, a little ding on the tank but otherwise fine. The guy is a mechanic and it sounds like it's been his weekend riding toy that has been well looked after.
I'm counting the minutes until next weekend!!!!

Congrats! You made a good choice to join the swarm yessirree bob! :woohoo: So you going to be riding it back or trailering it back like I did for my little ol'Hornet?
And when are you thinking of going to pick it up? I may be tempted to ride down that way
Well if you need to know anything more about it, drop me a PM ... and I'll try to convince you to bling yours out! :innocent: btw, was it one of those purty little ol'Hornets on sale at 'tardme?
Keep us posted! Bzzzzt!

Isn't Justin (Gijoe1313) a helpful lad, but hey a Hornet and long ride's are two of his favourite things.....
If you want company I totally recommend riding with Justin.

Thanks for the offer, I'll PM you now. A friend of mine (DiscoTex) is coming down with me to either ride it back or sit in the car while we trailer it back (depending on the weather). I'm sure if the weather is good he'd be more than happy to have the company. I'll also be following close behind in the car for backup :shifty:

Those hornets are mighty fine bikes no doubt about it. I'm really looking forward to riding the hornet back for obstacle should the weather permit. I'm expecting it'll feel pretty comfy after riding the ZXR for the last 6 months. The VTR250 I rode was heaps of fun so a hornet can only be better.

Hey! I resemble that remark! I've dropped on my monthly average of 8000kms! So I need to pick it back up so in my first year of riding I would have done 72000km! (at 59000km at moment!) hmmm 3 months to rack it back up!
So yeah, I am easy and excuse for a ride! :innocent:

Congrats for buying the hornet, now you are one of us muhahahha -_-
gijoe13131 (Justin) is the top man regarding hornets, he has helped me with mine one too mnay times :).
Hornets are good bikes, got the power in the top, but they can be lil frustrating in stop and go peak traffic.
EDIT: Don't forget to put up some piccies.

Nah Sleepr, once you get to grips with your little ol'Hornet you'll be buzzing in any traffic any time! Just keep in the right gear with the right revs and she'll be right! :msn-wink: :scooter:
Need more practice with it? I'm sure we can go for a ride somewhere and do some!

Yup, gijoe1313's hornet felt like a cushion compared to my gpx, a really nice seating position, fit like a glove, so to speak.
I refuse to ride it though, so I cant comment on that ;p

Would I get stung if I entered the swarm for tagging along on the same ride?
Everyone needs an odd one out to laugh at. Especially a slower one!

 Coming up from Wanganui would be a decent ride to make a ride up here! Actually come to think of it, I haven't been to Wanganui on my little ol'Hornet yet!
Will have to pull out my motorcycling atlas and mark in the spots I have done! (hmm South Island is unexplored! :weep:)

Nah, no worries mate, I ride slow most of the time so you would end up being faster than me! And actually the main reason to have you along would be to make our Hornets look even better! :innocent:
"Daddy, those other bikes look kewl - but there is an odd one out, is that like the uncool kid tagging along?"
"Hush son, those are bikers, they might beat us up and want to date your sister"

I agree, all the hornet riders need to go on a ride. Justin please organise one :). I think he did try to organise one earlier on, but that fell through didnt it Justin? We need more hornets!

Holy shit I knew you rode a lot but that's insane (in a good way). I'm hoping to crack 12500km in my first year. Done 5k in 6 months but it's been winter and I had a break while I broke my shoulder.
Might be easier to measure your riding by the number of new chains and tyres!
"How many k's did you do last year?"
"Oh you know.. 3 fronts, 6 rears and a half dozen chain's worth..."

 It seems this Hornet thread is turning into a free for all! I guess I will have to do some secret plotting and pre-ride riding to ensure the swarm of little ol'Hornets (and zeocen and other non-little ol'Hornet riders) is kept happy! :wari:
Now, I think the entry requirement will be based on blingage on bikes.. Hornets auto... other riders will need to give a list of what happy bling bling they have done to their rides?

here's a question for you all - should i bother with the trailer i've booked as a backup? The weather looks like it's going to be sweet and discotex is good to ride it back but given my max speed in the car will be lowered to 80kmph is it worth it? on one hand i'd hate to be stuck with a broken down bike in the middle of the north island (god knows what happens in the waikato) but on the other hand i have every faith that the bike is going to be sweet and make it back without issue.

It was the hard km's to begin with. The previous owner had the preload on the read cranked up to one click off max. A quick toddle with the toolkit and my back was saved.
Other than some long straight boring roads (for the car and trailor's benefit) I had a fun ride home. The wee Hornet is almost as quick as my ZXR up to 100km/h. After that the sail effect really slows you down. A number of times I went to duck behind the fairing only to remember there wasn't one.
It's exaust sounds mean and she handles great. I didn't really want to get off at the end of the day even though my butt was numb. :niceone:
