Hey all,

Have decided its time to move up from my XV250, which has been a great, reliable (but......boring) ride. So its now my girlfriends and I am on the hunt for a new bike.

Im sure everyone here has gotten sick of answering 250 questions, but I would like to ask advice: Im choosing out of what seem to be the best 250 sports bikes: Kawasaki ZXR, Suzuki GSXR(R), or the CBR250. I have ridden a friends GSXRR and loved it, but would really appreciate any thoughts you guys may have, or other models of bikes. (what about an RGV?) Would like a bike that I can really train my skills on. Have ridden around 5000 k's.

Cheers & thanks heaps! :)

Go to a dealer and test ride each brand to find out  They are all great bikes to own. The ZXR might feel a little big or wider in design compared to the CBR. I recommend staying with 4 strokes as they are more economical to maintain compared to a 2 stroke.

I know it's a forlorn hope, but I'n the chap who has to always mention it... thought about a Hornet? :sweatdrop , I know, I know - nakeds aren't for you and you want a faired bike.

Fair enough! :slap: :thud:

Save ya money and buy a 400/600 when you get ya license, or to go inconspicuous an get a 400/450 cruiser or the 350 goose.
buying a 250 sport bike after owning another 250 is like replacing boots with nike's.
All shine, no dime - should save your money not waste your time

Honest opinion? Don't fart around with those finicky sewing machines. Get a VTR.

How long till your full?

As avgas said, might be best to hold onto your current ride and wait till your full.

Or if your not worried about licence restrictions etc, grab a 400, you can normally get tidy ones for less then a roughed up 250.

As for the 250's, the CBR's are pretty good.

I'd skip the GSX if it's power and handling you're after. They're a nice bike but are down on HP and up on weight.

If you're heart is really set on a 250 sport bike I'd say get the ZXR C model. Honestly the CBR is probably almost identical performance wise but I prefer the look and feel of the ZXR. They're a little cheaper for the age/km as well.

Check out my profile pic and I'm sure you'll be hooked.

Really heavy, really slow and made in China

Buy a 400, even if you get caught you'll have cash to spare from a 250.

I'd look at a bandit 250 they have the same motor as the gsxr250rr slightly detuned but still at least 90% of the power. Way cheaper then the zxr's and cbr's and crash cheaply too since they are unfaired.

They are heavy, they definately arent a 2stroke 250, but if you learn how to throw them around they are fun as hell in the twisties. :devil2:

Id also prefer it over 15 year old 250's for the same price but with 40,000 kms or whatever they usually are. :oi-grr:

Though id also suggest for the person who started this thread, vtr250's and 250 bandits. :niceone:

they are all good bikes but its gettin hard to find one thats not at deaths door!!!
id go for a bandit if you want a good rev happy sewing machine!
otherwise the aprilia 2 stroke if you must go down the 2 stroke path! leave the rgv's to people with too much time on their hand, you will spend more time fixing it than riding it!
ive spent time on the bandit.vtr, zzr, gsx, cbr, and fzr. Id rate the bandit with its 6 speed box better on the open road than the vtr, but the vtr for arount the city and to and from work type riding.
zzr, well you will fall asleep at the wheel its so boring! cbr for the twisty's, keeps up with bigger bike well in the hills but im too tall for it so i got cramp easy on it. fzr was much the same.gsx, nice big 250 but a real heap of shit! nice gear box though. gsxr is the only one i have not riden, but the bandit has the same motor.
