Got the bike towed away today, in a rather strange fashion. I was expecting a small truck or Ute, but seemed ok in the end.

Sawyers won't be able to give the insurance company a quote till Next Monday, so the Rally aint looking good.

Will keep you all posted.
Dave.

I'll pop in and see her on my way to work tomorrow, then.
This is really heartbreaking, mate.

But surely we can find a way to get you there? After all, it may not be anything *that* bad...?
How's the leg/hip?

I was just in at Sawyers talking to Brendon about your misfortune. He told me how well you looked after your bikes describing your immaculate CB250R. I feel for you mate. Only las April I wrote off my beloved TRX all I have left is a bunch of photos, a broken footpeg and a bit of fairing on my desk. Oh yeah and an immaculate set of stock mufflers I should sell sometime.

I didn't know I could worry about anything more, but thanks to this I am. I hope the tow straps don't do any damage..... Ohhh, I feel an ulcer coming along :(

Knee and thigh are still sore, I am called "hop-a-along" at work at the moment

I tentatively (with some apology and reference to a certain unpleasant incident a while back) asked Sawyers if I could get a loan bike. hehe, I'd be happy with one of those Sedgeway things :cool2:

Taken away by the pink pussywagon I see. :weep:

That's a really weird way to move a bike, normally they'd just come round in their ute, roll in on, strop it down and away they go.

You weren't just parked illegally were you as a passing tow-truck driver has thought to himself that'll be easy pickings.
I'd ring sawers and make sure they have the bike, if they don't it's probably down at the local tow-yard. :disapint:

lets hope you can get a loan bike then ya can still come to the rally!! That pink truck looked a bit tacky, don't approve of the method of bike moving either, surely they have a bike trailer????

Firefight
4th October 2004, 14:10
Is it just me(it often is), ah, theres no way I would allow my bike to be moved like that, would be keen to hear what Jackrat(professional Vehicle recovery) and Jimmy (Bike shop Dude) have to say about it.

It looks set up to stop the bike swinging backwards but what about when the towie brakes? whats to stop it hitting the boom?

I know BM, thats sorta what I was thinking, Ia'm not exactly a stranger to the whole bike recovery thing, But I have never seen it done like that.

Well, it looked quite secure when he left, and I didn't know that it was that bad at the time. If it did hit anything, it would be on the already damaged bits. But, the tow strap was on some of the paintwork.

sigh... I actually don't care anymore, till I get it back. :sneaky2:

I had that outfit tow my Escort years ago (85) ..... ended up denting the front and the side while they did it ... .... they denied all knowledge and said it was already like that !! ... they are a pack of C*&#@ .. :bash: .. Good thing you took pics !!! I hope the wee thing made it OK .....

how come it takes so long for the assessor to assess the damage I wonder?, it seems pretty straight forward as to what needs replacing/repairing. Maybe I am being overly simplistic, but you would think that it would be relatively straightforward to get all that part over with and then get the bike off to the repair shop.

4th October 2004, 14:56
Ahhh but is the insurance guys that dick around. I had my bike assessed and ready to be fixed within 1 day (bike shop can do it) but the bloody insurance guys took thier sweet time.

As to the towing mate that may look stable but think about the force generated by an object HANGING like that on the BACK of the truck when cornering. You may (at the least) find yourself with strap marks on the paint job. Reason a car can be towed behind is because they have 2 grounded wheels. I would not have let them tow it like that maybe you should stop in to the bike shop and check to see if all is dandy aye

Too true, took me six weeks to get it all sorted out, same day I bought another bike and got out of plaster. I hope you get yours sorted out quickly. What's your lid/the rest of your gear like? Will you get any of that replaced under insurance?

State insurance.
My helmet doesn't have a scratch on it, so should be fine I think. Can I get a new jacket under insurance? I haven't specified that I wanted it insured when I arranged cover though.

I would try it not sure as was your fault etc but When I had my bin my leathers had about 2-3 3mm scratches on them and I got them to send them away and got them all cleaned for me. (First time they had ever had been cleaned :)

I think your jacket would come under 'house and contents' insurance.

Look, I appreciate ALL comments, but I don't feel all that great, mentally or physically, so since it's already been towed, please don't say how bad it was, and how much damage may have been done. I have certainly learnt, that next time I have a bike towed, to refuse something like that. If anyone has any experience with having a vehicle damaged in tow, and how they got compensated, then I'm all ears.

Since the wheels were tied down, I feel the only damage likely would be strap damage to paint on the plastic part of the tank. This is already out of line, so maybe they will replace it anyway. Hell, maybe the truck got rear ended by a LinFox freight truck, problem solved. The tow guy assured me everything was fine, I'm such a pushover.

Wenier
4th October 2004, 19:25
Well i hope its all alright. You obviously have photos of the bike so if damage is done you can probably prove it from the photos. That would b the only way i can think of managing to prove something like that.

Mate I am sure the bike will be fine I would like to know what the insurance said though. I lost the front about two weeks ago in the rain comming towards a red light so now I have a badly scratched fairing but that is about it So i will leave it until the summer is over and will buy some fairing protectors with the new fairing. Have not told the insurance yet as I am scared they will push payments up. What is all damaged on your bike?

StoneChucker
4th October 2004, 21:33
I need to check my work e-mail to be sure, but nothing as of 17:30 this evening about the loaner bike. I only contacted them about it today, so there's no hurry for now.

Whats damaged? From memory front "nose" unit, possibly headlights blown from impact, right ram air duct (I think thats what it is), right main red fairing, bottom black fairing, right side of engine block, underneath of exhaust, whatever is leaking oil (oil filter, or cracked sump/engine block), throttle grip, right indicator, front wheel fairing, rear wheel bobbin (for stand), tank fairing (out of alignment), right mirror and whatever goes click, click, click.... when I free wheeled down the hill to work. Possibly a bent front brake lever, and thats just from a brief look, by someone with no mechanical knowledge. It also looks completely different to me, like the lines are different, I dunno, maybe just the way the pieces were sitting on the bike

Jazbug pulls herself up to her full height (an imposing 5 foot and 4 inches in her socks)...

And just WHAT are you trying to say, off-man? Are you trying to impugn the mighty beast that is the GN250? Harrumph!
Watch it our I'll be getting out my pointy stick, I will... :Pokey:

You see what poor honest working mechanics/bike people have to deal with. I mean how could you say no????

As to my earlier comments on the beast that is the gn250. I have honestly never ridden one. maybe at the rally you'd care to swap. (then again recalling incidents in previous posts hmmmm :killingme :killingme )

had another thought (i know i know if i have to many the brain will melt)

But maybe you could find someone more fortunate who has more than 1 bike who would be willing to lend it to you. As for the insurance i know with cars you can pay a small fee (it was $25 or summing) and have a temporary driver for like a week or whatever. So maybe you could do that, borrow a bike and just put your name down as a temporary rider for the weeken   .

Just a thought my mate did it when she needed someone else to drive her car so it could work for bikes aye.

StoneChucker
4th October 2004, 23:22

Steer clear of their GPX?250 - it's a real mongrel! And my mate Hayden has had their Kawasaki 400 for a few weeks now so that's taken. I know they do have a loan scooter though! Hey - at least you'll really appreciate your bike at the end of it.
