You might want to try Bill (T.W.R.).
He has all sorts of pics of machines dating back then.

Actually now I think of it, I have a coupe of (not so great quality) pics of CB1100R's (without fairings on) in front of some Katanas at Tauranga (Bay Park?) in 1982, when my father used to race.

I can dig them out and scan them if you're interested, Dave.

Copyright issues and usually of low quality.

I tried Blue Wing first, they only had low res too.

I believe I know where there is one locally. A certain gent who used to race way back when owned a new one and was asking such a high price that it's quite possible he still has it. In latter days a couple of his sons are better known for their motoX doings on the international stage.

If all else failed nadroj or I could give hime a whistle and see what's what.

I haven't seen it for years and it could be in storage and covered in birdshit but we wouldn't know if we didn't ask...

This is the best I've got Dave, taken on the 2002 Coast to Coast at Woodville - a tidy looking example. However not such a hi-res pic as I'd take these days.

I had linked that already on the CB1300 thread here http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showthread.php?t=1891

I thought Merv's pic is an RA or B. The RC's had comstar wheels and full-fairings IIRC.

 maybe ?? but the blue inlay on the fairings is more RD model

:2thumbsup they're all running Comstar wheels

Used to have some good pictures of the Mentor Motorcycles line-up with Wayne Gardener & Rob Phillis onboard the 11Rs
And a bloody brilliant comparison test between the 11R and RC45 which had some really amazing results

You and me both. I've got photos from some endurance production race at Baypark in 1982 that won't cope well with scanning. If we ever get together we can sit and pour over old photos like a couple of old winos swapping Club 99 stories.:msn-wink:

Sounds good to me. I used to love seeing the 1100R's against the Kat 11's racing. There never was a lot in it.

Said bike is still in NP and now in the hands of most famous son, it is in the process of being dusted off an got going with a view to selling. The old boy still owns it technically so it won't be going cheap, but then these things are so rare now they will command big $$$ on the international market. I imagine that if no-one locally puts up their hand for it it will end up in Japan or the US.

Shit Big Dave - now I'm going to have to spend some $ and check out your up-coming article (or at least spend a while reading it at the supermarket..).

Like you I am old enough to remember the original CB1100R - I recall straining my undies over it as a young man at my local Honda dealer.

Thing is that was Honda's super sport bike of the day and a genuine hot rod. The CB1300s of today dressed in a stylised impersonation of the 1100R is a tourer - a quote from Honda's NZ website

The CB1300S’ sleek and sporty, frame-mounted half-fairing taps into the look of an earlier age of muscle bikes to move the mighty CB1300 a giant step closer to the world of sports touring riding enjoyment.

Nothing wrong with the CB1300 - I just find the 1100R rip off almost offensive.

Having said that the recent 1100R concept bike displayed recently was spiffy.

Hey - whats with NZ bike magazines - are we a bit thin on test bikes in NZ as the CB1300 must have featured at least 10 times in the past few years in the mags available.

And to further contradict myself I fail to understand why Suzuki has not taken say the Bussa base (B-King) and hard-edge Katana it for a super naked bike.

That isnt the one that Dave Martin used to race? Always made me laugh, they had two in that shop, I always wondered how many laps around Manfield certain parts on the "new" bike had done.

Still remember here in NP the first time I saw one. Allan Delatour was riding out of Honday City (?) taking it for a ride round the coast to get some kms on it prior to racing it, the gold clutch covers etc were gorgeous.

Who was it that kept the fairing on it in the endurance races? Vince Sharpe?(and if I have anyones names wrong I apologise)

The RB was always my favorite one I know of 2 for sale but they are big bucks one in NP and the other in Tga not many around any more but they do run well for their age.

do they cost more or less than say, an RC30?

I think the underachieving/undervalued stuff at present is the RC51: thy have a LOT of fruit and you can pick up a good one for under $15k. and Ive seen an average one for $11k.
