The French may think they are cultured and superior, just not very smart. Even over half the audience are retards.

I still find it surprising when some people have no idea what a star is. I guess I'm just an old astronomy geek from way back.
ok, fess up. Who also had no idea the answer to the question? Should be as well known as the earth is not flat. <_<

Bloody Hell.....To think that one person was that dumb well thats easy....BUT almost half the audience???? Man, that was a dumb audience....are them frogs still stuck in the Renaissance period...Heck they must still be thinking along the lines of Geocentric astronomy...Galileo Galilei would be turning in his grave...

There isn't any such thing as a star orbitting around the Earth, since the Earth orbits the Sun... Who ever heard of a star orbitting a planet?! Can't believe over half of the audience thought the Sun orbitted the earth too. The church loved that theory and exiled Gallileo for suggesting otherwise (1616), who, along with Copernicus believed in the heliocentric universe. But the geocentric universe suited the church better since the heavens were "above the stars".
The only celestial body orbitting the Earth is the Moon - unless you want to count the thousands of satellites, and the International Space Station...

Er....no shit Sherlock... It doesn't really indicate the average intelligence of the French rather it acts as a barometer for the ignorance of those French people who actually care enough about game shows to make the effort to be in a studio audience.
The british version of Millionaire is filmed in a studio very close to a major telecommunications and IT company. When they can't get a full audience together (most of the time) they send someone across the road for volunteers -whom they pay in alcohol of course. As a result the british show gets bucket loads of uber qualified individuals almost guaranteeing a correct answer in 'Ask the Audience'

Its no revelation that these pageant girls aren't selected for their intellectual merits, but this is just a little rediculous...
The way she smiles after the host stops her is what gets me. I bet she thought she really nailed that one.

It is when you don't innoculate against it by the jusicious application of a minimal education. Naturally it's also invariably fatal, but in our enlightened world it's often seen as irrelevant.

Eeerrr...thank for trying to be the Devil's advocate here, but such a basic principle of astronomy is taught in french schools...
But not much can be done when the gene pool is challenged to start with:thud:
It is an attitude problem also: they do really think that they know better, and so do not second guess themselves. Not much luck in bettering yourself in such conditions, eh?

Va te faire futre!. At least we can make a decent bottle of wine, unlike the rats piss you get down here! ;)
I'm pretty horrified that anyone couldn't answer that question correctly in the space of a second, but you've got to remember, this is a game show audience - they're not exactly rocket scientists.
