My other half got pulled over for speeding on his soft tail last week. He was doing 147 km on back road on his way to work, (he assures me there was no other traffic on that long stretch of road!!) The cop told him that if he hadnt stopped he would have rammed him off the road. (Asshole) Well any way to cut a long story short, the cop said that if he could give him some dirt on any one he would lower his ticket to 130 km!!. My other half said "F**k mate, I,m a dad with 2 kids, Ive got my lunch on the back and Im on my way to work", the cop told him he would lower the ticket but had his number and would call him if he ever needed a favour!!!!!!!!!. I have a few mates in the piggy force an checked with them on this, according to them he was bloody lucky the ticket was lowered, and they thought maybe the cop had mistaken him for someone else. Im thankful his ticket was lowered but cant believe they can be so slimmy. I dont know any one who would dish out dirt (nark) on any one to get there ticket lowered.

If your friend riding the Harley is a patched gang member there is a possibilty that he could sue the officer for defamation of character. There are only 3 kinds of Harley riders to the best of my knowledge: Accountants, Lawyers and Patched Gang members. Accountants and Lawyers are generally as crooked as a 6 dollar note so it's obvious the officer mistook your friend for one of these. (P/T)

Support your local drug dealer, receiver, burglar, etc then and say nothing...
Would have been a $630 instant fine and immediate loss of licence for 28 days...
You would be surprised at just what people will give up just to save their own arse.
As for ramming him off the road? Dumbarse!! Needs to think about how a manslaughter charge (or murder) would stick on his arse if it all went wrong (and ramming a motorbike off a road would go all wrong).

Sounds more like Fairy Tale Land than New Zealand. People stopped reporting crime because the Police stopped investigating it - they have different priorities these days. Why should we be expected to live in our houses without touching anything for 3 days after a burglary on the off chance the cops will actually turn up, after they're called?

or maybe if the community helped out to catch said burglar that was more than likely working over an area it would dramaticly reduce the offence rate and the "3 day wait" and i assume you are talking about auckland here.
As for the ticket saga i dont beleive it, i reckon cops these days are to busy covering their own arse from the political nightmare that consumes the now PC police organisation which in turn is choking the life out of the average coppers ability to get the job done due to cry babies who feel hard done by when they offend, its not like people dont know whats coming to them when they do whatever it is their doing at the time.
people should just harden up, do what they oughta and get on with it.

By a Harley going 147km/h.
The cop should have given him an award for having the nuts to wring the neck off the softtail and being able to approach that kind of speed.
DOT should have known better. Empty road, early morning, of course the only other vehicle on the road is a policeman(person).
He should have known the only time to speed safely is when there is other traffic so the radar cannot get a clear tone and lock on to you.
More to the point, why the hurry to get to work when he had an empty road and a bike between his thighs?

Ive never had any problems with the police. When I've been handed a ticket I've definately deserved it. Been let off with a warning a few times. Have always been treated courteously and have treated them the same and have never bothered with excuses (they've heard them all you know and it makes no difference) If caught speeding etc just be an adult and accept that you were caught breaking the law by one whose job it is to enforce those laws. If you find the laws unjust become a politician and push for change. Otherwise just be glad that the fine was reduced to 130 and pay up.
Rant over.

You're not allowed to "take the law into your own hands" - the criminals have more rights than victims. Besides, that's not the job I'm paid to do - that's one of the reasons why we pay taxes. Yes - I'm talking about Auckland but I don't expect it's much different anywhere elses. Luke Donnelly and Paul McIntyre certainly didn't have great experiences of Police response to complaints and they weren't in Auckland.

2. Different down here. Its the home owners who put it off usually coz they are going fishing, whitebaiting, work, whatever...

The last time it did I was exceeding 80kph on the Akd Hrbr bridge approaches. When the ticket was handed to me for a damn sight less than I'd done I actually thanked the guy for his leniency. Yep... picked up the pieces, or received in the mortuary, of what was once a human, torn apart because of the SPEED.
There are photos too, but not ideal family viewing...
But yeah, inattention, shite skill and stupidity probably contributed too... Maintenance wasn't a problem in the ones I know of, all cars were good condition.

So instead of moaning why not stand up and fight it. Call the complaints line tell them the truth that he was driving at 147 take the ticket, fine, impounded bike, loss of licence
big deal, so what and take the cop to task.
So - do you have the morals and fortitude to stand up for what you believe in or are you just going to moan about it?
Maybe you would dish out dirt on someone you knew but my hubby wont, unless its detrimental to someones life.
As for this being detrimental to someones life - they are not looking for other speeders or people who have littered. The people that are being dobbed in have done something that caused harm (emotional / physical / financial) to others - I have sympathy to the victims not the offenders.
Would I ever dob people in - I did as recently as yesterday (I *555'ed his ass) - I assume that you find that poor behaviour as well?

Why should we be expected to live in our houses without touching anything for 3 days after a burglary on the off chance the cops will actually turn up, after they're called?
The first time I got burgled (loss in excess of $12,000) it took five days for the cops to turn up. The second time, it took about 20 minutes from the discovery of the theft (loss about $250) but only because when I reported the theft, the dispatcher must have got a little worried when I said the sole item taken was an air pistol. When the cops turned up, they were under the impression it was a real firearm.
Roads are actually quite good, but yeah, the idiot drivers usually getting it wrong, and the vast majority because of speed. The snakes hammer it often for the idiot speeder all the time.
Patrick, I usually agree with what you say (especially when some prick makes an assumption that because Clint Rickards was accused of rape, the whole Police force is made up of rapists) but that statement is complete bollocks.
Going faster than the speed limit does not cause crashes. Inappropriate speed can cause crashes, and the faster one goes, the more serious the accident is likely to be. The LTSA are complicit in this deception as they lump both definitions of speeding together and refuse to provide accident statistics for each individually. Although my knowledge of what goes on in NZ is a little sketchy I do know something of what goes on in the UK, where the figures for serious accidents attributed to speeding are pretty similar.
Over there, 'speeding' gets attributed as a cause of an accident automatically if any vehicle involved in the accident is adjudged to have been going faster than the speed limit. My dad's best friend and business partner's fatal accident was put down to him speeding. It was estimated that he was doing 37mph in a 30mph zone. Straight road, perfect visibility and some blind bitch in an Remuera tractor pulls out of a side road five metres ahead of him. It wasn't the fact the woman was not paying the slightest bit of attention or didn't even glance in the direction of oncoming traffic - no, it was because he was speeding.
Practically every fatal accident report in the newspaper I see here has the same thing; "speed may have been a factor in the accident". It's an automatic response to say that if the person was going faster than the limit, it was the fact they were speeding that led to the accident. What complete and utter shite. A few years ago, TRL in the UK did a study of accidents over a six month period across the country. They re-examined the causes of accidents and the findings weren't very popular with the powers that be. Amongst the top causes of accidents were inattention, failure to give way, inappropriate speed and drunk driving. Exceeding the speed limit came a pretty long way down the list, being found to be the causal factor in just 3% of crashes and a contributory factor in 7%. Not quite the 33% the government at the time were claiming.
For the last six years, this country's heard nothing but 'speed kills'. This has done nothing but harm to the state of driving in this country as now the majority of drivers think that provided they're doing under the speed limit, they're driving safely; no matter if they happen to be putting on make-up, drinking coffee, adjusting the stereo, texting their friend and shouting at the kids - simultaneously. Whilst it's true that Police don't set the policy, they have bee complicit in this message and are therefore as guilty as the government and LTSA for the reversal of the year on year decrease in the road toll that had been evident since 1990.
[/rant]
You know - I should save this message. I'll no doubt be using it again in the vain hope that someone might actually listen...

i once got done 94 in a 50 and had a wee bribe with said officer....
got him to drop the speed to 80 something so it put me on 95 demerits, then he gave me another fine (containing no demerits) to make up for it, $600 driving in a manner liable to cause damage.

My understanding is that all speeding related fines carry demerits, wether the officer does or does not note it.
Could be wrong though

I think he was saying that the other fine was for something that did not carry demerits, not speeding. The value of which equaled what he would have paid for the full speeding ticket.

Patrick, I usually agree with what you say (especially when some prick makes an assumption that because Clint Rickards was accused of rape, the whole Police force is made up of rapists) but that statement is complete bollocks.
Going faster than the speed limit does not cause crashes. ...
Gotta disagree with ya there fella...
Stuff the stats, I am talking about what actually happened. Usually falling off a bend, losing control into oncoming traffic or at the end of a passing lane merging back into one... the HUGE skid marks in all of them say "speed is clearly a factor."
Simple really...

Speed might be a factor (regardless of whether it's above of below the posted limit), but outright shit and inconsiderate driving is a much more heavily weighted factor in my driving experience.
In the merging passing lane scenario there are a number of issues... assholes who speed up for passing lanes despite having been driving at ridiculously low speeds for no apparent reason prior to them... people not pulling left immediately after passing... people using the entire passing lane to pass one vehicle... not checking for passing cars before pulling right to merge... basically being completely ignorant of the existance of everyone around them.
How many people do you know who button off immediately (not radically, just an easing of speed) when someone signals their intention to overtake them? I do - always. As far as I'm concerned the less distance it takes for them to overtake me, the safer I'll be because if they wreck doing it they'll be further away from me when it happens. :2thumbsup

Or something completely unforseen occured. An oncoming car decided to overtake, someone pulled out of a driveway without looking etc.

And how many modern cars actually skid in a straight line? You know, as opposed to stopping quickly with ABS preventing wheels from locking up and leaving big black marks.

leaves black hop marks where it locks and unlocks but yes it does shorten the braking distance however i thinkthere maybe a mathmatical equation to work it out, those serious crash guys have all the toys.

pulled for F****n speeding, there was no need for the interogation on dishing out dirt. In my eyes, if you get caught speeding, you get a ticket, and always a lecture on speeding an go on your merry (speed limit, or lower) way.
No offence but I think you're nuts. I totally agree with the coppers intentions and I'm glad he was able to use discretion (something I believed coppers over here weren't allowed to use) and let your old man off. I totally disagree that if you get caught speeding you should always get a ticket.

Yep, happened to me yesterday on the passing lane between Sanson & Feilding.. moved into the right hand lane to pass a large but unladen truck, that had been doing 80km/hr.. was doing 140 by the end of the lane as the guy just kept on accelerating. Had a Holden behind me, so chose not to back off, but a very irritating event.

It's like a NZ cultural thing - so many people just hate the thought of being passed!
There was a clown in a Jag doing exactly this a few years ago between Auckland and Hamilton (before the expressway). I was on my VF1000R and was in no hurry so I followed him at a fair distance for the amusement. After Taupiri I decided to catch him up so that when we arrived at the passing lane southbound into Ngaruawahia I was at a normal following distance and then gently accelerated to pass him. He accelerated. I accelerated some more. He accelerated some more. I think you know where this is going...
Long story short, by the end of the passing lane I had this prick, who'd been holding people up driving at 70-80km/h on single lane stretches of SH1 and then accelerating to about 120km/h in the passing lanes, doing just under the ton only to try and prevent me from passing!
Just before the end I nailed it and got in front of him then dawdled all the way to Hamilton in front of him. I hope his blood boiled.

That comes as no surprise... I had it happen before, but with a mufti cop! :oi-grr:
I was behind a silver maxima that was travelling at 80-90km/h on Sh1 between taupo & tokoroa on a beautiful waitangi day, got to the passing lane, accelerated to 110km/h and the prick accelerated to stay right beside me! So I accelerated to 120km/h and got in front of him... at which point he stuck his red & blues on, giving me a ticket for 121km/h. Bastard. :bash:

I too have always found it a little curious how the roads that are actually better and safer too 'speed' on get hammered. Like the speed camera van in the middle of the passing lane south of Maramarua on Friday. ----- that good surface - it's to sucker ya in baybeeeeee!! :msn-wink:

Doesn't work though. I've only had one speed camera ticket, and that was between Cambridge and Hamilton in early '99 during the hidden camera period. I guess I'm just too observant for them... :2thumbsup

speeding 101 - always have someone in your lane between you and the next oncoming car. (advice from someone who knows)

Defend the ticket..... the speed the cop lowered it to cannot be upheald in Court as it was not the speed your partner was doing. Police have been told they were to cease that practice as it was clearly wrong to do so. Oh and he also has no right under the rules of pursuit etc to be able to run a bike off the road merely for a speed offence.
Given that he was asking for dirt I assume some MC connection there possibly? hmmm?

So he was exceeding the speed limit prior to activating the red and blue lights? Again a breach of policy for urgent duty driving tisk tisk. 'Baiting' could possibly work as a defence.

To get this incident put into the 'storm in a tea-cup' catagory would be require a considerable elevation of its true value.....
Had a bit of thought about what would have happened if this happened to me. All I can come up with is I'd be ever so thankfull that the ticket had been lowered and I had not had to kiss my licience and bike goodbye.
At the end of the day, the rider was breaking the law. The fact that the rider was asked to help dish out the dirt is irrelevant. I was stopped on the CBR several times during the first couple of thousand KM and asked if I knew such & such. I just looked at the officer and each time said sorry I don't. I was even stopped once buy an officer who actually thought I was such & such. Funny thing is I do know who it was they was after, but they did not know that. End of story really. :done:

Now now
The first time I got burgled (loss in excess of $12,000) it took five days for the cops to turn up. The second time, it took about 20 minutes from the discovery of the theft (loss about $250) but only because when I reported the theft, the dispatcher must have got a little worried when I said the sole item taken was an air pistol.
Ah ha.
I see a cunning tactic forming.
To get a quick response from the cops to a burglary, you mention that a gun was stolen. When the cops arrive and ask about it you say you meant you son's water pistol.
Stick a tail on it and call it a weasel

Hey guys I think theres been a big misunderstanding and a waste of a cop bashing thread, not that I'm sexist, but its his female partner reporting her version of his version of events, she is a female, and obviously stil working through simple thought processing issues. I'm sure the partner (riding his harley) wasn't spinning conspiracy theories about cops, bribery etc. and more than happy to take a 130 over loss of licence, if any of this hapened at all.

Everything in life has 20% assholes, i don't believe that the cops don't have their pricks in the force.
As for paying to get a ticket lowered. Yep i would - get caught over 150 and your dead. Of course that brings up the topic of if you see flashing lights at 150+ on a bike do you stop - but that is discussed on other threads, so no point in refreshing it again.
I wouldnt. Run and Hide is my motto in that situation - but then again i am a moron so dont-do-what-donny-does.
So yes - corrupt cops in NZ, no doubt, worth worrying about - not really.
Its a part of life, you either deal with it and learn from it, or stew it over until you too become corrupt.
