View Full Version : How do I oil my air filter?

I'm replacing the air filter on my Volty and apparently it needs oiling. It's one of those foam sleeves that you can wash and re-use. (This is a brand new one because the old one had perished.)

How do I go about oiling the filter?
Any tips on which oil I should buy?
How do I minimise mess/waste?
How oily should the filter be when I re-fit it?
Can I keep the left over oil and use it again?
etc etc etc ...

Is it an aftermarket one (ie not a suzuki one) ?? Chances are there is an oiling kit if it is, complete with instructions - I use K&N's on the Guzzi and have a car recharge kit which should last the rest of my life!

If it is dripping off, you've added waaay too much. Either go to Repco and get a K&N cleaning kit, or get some filter oil (say Castrol or whatever). I'd go the K&N kit route though, the cleaning agent is easy to apply and works well (spray spray spray, rinse rinse rinse,, oil, done!)

It's a genuine suzuki one and it didn't come with an oiling kit.

So a K&N kit comes with the oil, and the stuff to take the oil off again for cleaning? And presumably full instructions? That sounds like what I need.

Yep, full instructions. Taking the oil off again isn't the issue, it's the crap that it traps that you'll be wanting to remove in the future :D
