Don't you just love how, with a large skin surface injury to joints, say your knee, forming and keeping a scar is near impossible
Sit down for a few hours with knee bent, scar forms. Stand up, scar compresses and cracks, back to square 1.
Stand / lie for a few hours, scar forms. Sit down/bend scar stretches, cracks and back to square 1

Fun Fun, I'm sure you will "enjoy" the next couple of weeks while it all heals up. You got any brusies or is it just the knee? I had a huge bruise all up the inside of my leg, which turned a interesting purple and the a ghastly yellow colour.

Yip, I know exactly how you feel. I've done a pretty good job on both knees from my 2 crashes. The only way you can get it to heal properly is if you get it dressed for a few weeks and then make sure you don't get it wet in the shower. My knee is only just healed and I had my bin 6 weeks ago. When I did it last year I was slack and just thought it would heal by itself. That was a bad mistake, it got infected and took about 3 months to heal and the scar for that is pretty bad. I don't care about the scars, its the showering with a plastic bag etc that pisses me off.
Hope you recover quickly.

Don't you mean 'scab'. After the healing, you will still be scarred for life. :third:

I've found if you bin it on a knee that still has a scab on it from the last crash that it really hurts and looks like it has gladwrap on it when it finally heals.

Can you get one of those dressings that you just leave on so the skin can heal beneath it?
I had one of them for a couple of weeks when I had no skin down one of my legs, and it did a pretty awesome job of healing it up. I didn't have to worry about any joints though.

Yeah I think it keeps it moist, which helps it to heal better too. Sheesh Stoney your the one with the Mum who is a nurse. Ask her :doctor:
Btw - hope you are feeling better.

The very kind doctor told me to keep it dry, and in the open air. Now I hear moist (by the way, moist, dark and warm are the ideal conditions for the growth of bacteria).
I might go with a 50/50 thanks eddie

I found the part thats burning, is between the two grazes on the knee. So, I gave it a push, and felt something moving, and "creaking". I think I might go back to the doc tomorrow. :baby:

i remember when i did my knee. i used vasilene on it and put one of those sterile pads over the top. had to look after it daily though and it wasnt as deep as you rash. salt water is a good way to sterilise the wound. just stings aye. oh yeah did anybody mention your not supposed to use your knee as a slider? they sell the plastic thingoes... :devil2:

Lucky you didn't get injured on the bum. Under the above conditions you may very well find that you'll have a mushroom growin' outta your arse.

Are you bored, mate? Try watching paint dry -- there's this new stuff that goes on pink but goes white as it dries. Watching the lawn grow also has a special fascination for some, particularly noting that C4 grasses recover more quickly after mowing than do C3 grasses.

Sorry mate but you'll just have to wait it out. I don't think even Dr Costa could do much for this. Knees, elbows, shoulders always seem to cop it.
By the way how is your bruising. Last time I had an off I bounced the bike off my knee/thigh, and the deep bruising was really f&*^%% sore.
Do your best to keep sane.

I had the same problem, it took months to heal. When a scab formed it was very weak and would fall off whenever I tried to wear pants. Kept me off of my bike for a month and a half. Still hasn't fully healed, my knee is a funny colour, could be a scar because it doesn't hurt.

As an Ex RN I think your doctor sucks. Cell growth needs moisture not dryness. Especially considering that you wound is from a fiction burn. Sterile dressing is important and not destribing the wound too often will help to speed heeling. I like to use Manuka Honey on my wounds (has antiseptic qualities, feeds the new forming cells and keeps it moist). It speeds healing and no puss. Alovera is not to bad ether and there are some good wound healing gels. Keep a clean dressing over the wound. Change the dressing only if it gettings dirty or wet (bugs love a dirty wet dressing). Get a nurse to do the dressing (or show you how to do it). We are specially trained for this (not doctors, see them for the antibiotics). See the doctor if the wound gets hot, red, swells, has pus, and/or is painful. These are signs that the wound has got infected and you may need antibiotics or other medicial treatments.

Yeah, I went back for X-Rays last night, and the NURSE set me straight. They heal better when covered up, like you say. I'll be using OpSite dressings, which are sterile, and seal up nicely.

Harden up son....
I had an accident (insert favourite geological age here) ages ago and gravel rash (the deep down to the bone sort) on my ankle would not heal properly. A decent scab would not form...
Mad irish nurse decided it was time to sort this out.....
Out with the silver nitrate stick (I think)... Fark...... Like someone stubbing a cigarette out on your skin... made a nice scab REAL fast.... crickey it HURT. I used to break out in a sweat at the entrance to the hospital gates... put me off S&M I can tell you that!!!

A while back I enquired as to how much a new front hugger was -> $210
Now, I've managed to scratch just about everything on the right hand side, munt my engine sump, and yeah, some of that special "technical paint" hehe...
The right side of the engine is quite badly scratched, and the little thingiemajig that has a protector over it, near your right foot, throttle/gear mechanism :S, is grazed down to the "bone"
Add in a mirror or two, indicator, possibly two headlights units (they run on pure gold I think, rather expensive jobbies), and it all starts to add up. But I'll get a complete run down of the damage when I go in sometime.

You'll be wanting airbags fitted all around her in future, just in case. Or you could just keep her in one of those nice trailers, all wrapped up in cotton wool. I know I would, at those prices!

Isn't it funny how if there's somebody you know who has an "off" it tends to slow you down for a while......I had a slight moment with the front slipping that day which brung me back into line so to speak. Have since changed front tyre cause it was lacking tread.
