Looks like a good buy low kms.Do you have to get it certified before a vin & wof.

Careful. Before you pick it up, make sure you can re-register it - certain documents are required. If the owner just stopped paying the rego, it will run out, after a year, and plates will 'die'. To re-register it, you need to jump through a few hoops. I had to re-vin my CBR400RR when I got it. Here's what I had to do:

Here's what's needed for that

Signed letter saying seller has sold it to me.

Document must have seller's and buyer's name, Rego plate on it, and both of you have to sign and date it.

Bet I could carry a roast on my bike as I'll be bringing only a sleeping bag, and guitar and 12 pack

Glad to hear you have a bike finally.. no more showing up to things with a car :P

Well, what i thought would be relatively easy seems to be a bit harder now....seems the guy brought the bike from someone else about 3 years ago, and never changed ownership. He says he has the other owners contact details but will have to dig them out. I have got the plate number and the VIN number and will be calling up LTSA for advice and to also try to find the previous owner.
If I cant get that sorted out the deal will fall through. The guy seems pretty good about that and says if we need to we will just cancel the sale...So wish me luck guys...i was excited...... but now feel a bit let down:crybaby:

Yeah, be real careful mate. Heaps of people fall into this trap of not checking these details before buying a unregistered bike.

Schweet! Still think you should've got the CB450/550 , but that looks like a fun bike to abuse, and you won't have to worry so much about crashing/repairs.

They've got a reasonable amount of poke for a 250cc twin from the 80s, but they are a bit more heavier than they need to be.

Have fun! Hope you manage to keep upright!

yeah man if your deal goes through and you get everything sorted, you've got yourself a pretty good bike. i upgraded from an fxr150, still love using the torque that's available in the majority of the rev range, instead of just at 10k like on the fixxer! Isn't the best looker, but is good on gas and is a hoot in the tight stuff.
Congrats dude

Take it back and ask for the details. If the guy who you bought it from doesn't have it, then you're in doledrums. I'm sure you could still register it, but from the other threads I've read, it'd be a right pain in the ass.

Ring LTNZ tomorrow and find out.

I've read a few threads where people have had huge amount of difficulties with this sort of thing. Research certainly paid off in my case

Pretty good score there  hope it solidifies into a done deal for you.

here's a link to something that may be helpful for sorting the rest of the bits it'll be needing

After speaking with LTSA,and also getting a "Lemon check" through AA, I have found out that it is a viable purchase. I know the stages I need to go through to get the bike registered and they are not too hard...
...worst case scenario is a statement from the police that the bike is of no interest to them, and I know by the AA check that it isn't of interest to them. SO ME GOT WHEELS....My wife and I will do a run down to Otago in a few weeks to pick it up (on a trailer of course)...she is looking forward to going down there as she has never been south of Timaru. Anyways, it's all good!

Little tip (i am presuming you can not ride to well yet...) Go for a short ride up the road as soon as you can. Only a few hundi meters, (i did mine with no helmet or gear, at all) Dont go fast (i did not go above 10kph) and just, well ride it for that little, you will look at it differently and i recon it helped me to get the hell on with getting my bike on the road :Punk::laugh:

(just dont do it when there is a cop around...)
I wish this computer had a spell checker....

If we both lived in the same island I'd say fair 'nuff...but that bloody bit of water in the middle is a pain in the arse, and going thru wgtn is a bigger pain (only cos i get lost in welly)
