Hey guys,

I'm in the process of fixing bike up slowly, but in the past few days riding I've noticed some sort of squeaking coming from my bike. This is the kind of squeaking you get when you open a door in a haunted house.

And it happens in regular intervals, meaning it probably has to do with the wheels. I *think* it's coming from the front end of the bike.

I'm guessing something needs some lube. What could it be?

IF you rock the bike from left and right does that squeeking happen? I had something like that on one of my previous bike and it was to do with the front rotors and calipers. Never bothered about it as the rotors were straight when checked.

Rocking it left and right (violently or carefully) does not reproduce the noise. I can only hear it when the bike starts moving at a resonable pace (>10km/h). Rolling it along on the pavement slowly will not reproduce it.

Also one of both of the rotors are shagged - it was like that when I bought the bike. Never had this squeaking problem till now though.

Then it could be your brake pads then. If you can clean the calipers as it might be dirty (best to use an air compressor if you have access to one). CHeck that shims are installed or apply some anti-seize compound on the back plate of your brake pads to eliminate the squeeking.

perhaps a noisey wheel bearing, out of sync after the crash??

Pends on the type as a lot take it off the front sprocket now days, but I once had a speedo cable that did that.

Glad you found the problem. I remember having a similar problem with my ZXR, would only happen over 15kmh, too fast to actually be able to isolate where it was coming from! Drove me nuts.

Let me know if you need some help. Whatever you do if you have the calipers off don't press the brakes....

CBR250 maintenance manual to download if you need it to assist you. 216MB PDF format download. It should be almost the same then the CBR400.

Yeah, I'm getting somone experienced to guide me through the process. If I need more help I'll pm you :p

Also, found a CBR400RR manual, it's only 50MB but I'm downloading it now, I'll let you guys know how I get on.

Be sure to bed in the pads gently and carefully or you can use some fine grit paper and sand the pad surface before installing them.
