Anyone have any connections at the Electoral Office?
I would love to register and have already called the hotline but I taxed the poor dear's brain who answered my call by referring to a year as 52 weeks so not much joy there...
Thanks

I have tried it. FWIW I am not a Kiwi citizen. I have been here longer than a year and intend to stay .... well who knows?
The fact that I leave to visit family on short holidays (not longer than 2 weeks) no more than a couple of times a year apparently precludes me from being able to vote (unless I cough up over $400 to become a citizen which I see as no point being that I already have 2 passports...).
It just seems odd to me because it's not like I'm leaving the country for months at a time yet the fact that I have not been here for 365 days straight stops me from voting...

If you are not a national you don't get to vote. Same everywhere.

Actually that's not true Skyryder. If I could just stop taking holidays, I would be able to enrol because... well, I guess it must be payback for all you Kiwi dolebludgers over in my home country.... (JUST a JOKE mmmkay)
From the above site :
How do I know if I am eligible to enrol?
Basically, you are qualified to enrol if:
you are 18 years or older
you are a New Zealand citizen or permanent resident and
you have lived in New Zealand for one year or more without leaving the country
And it's the without leaving the country that is doing me over...
