Hey all.
i just clocked over 35000kms on my '01 ZX7R and was wondering what kind of servicing it needed!!!
The guy who had it before me had it serviced sumwhere between 27-28000kms and chucked a new chain on as well during that period.
Everything seems fine, nothings broken and there is no leakage of any sort.
I was gonna go get it booked in for a full servicing at red baron but wanted to find out if it was necessary and what i could do myself.
I know she needs an oil change and maybe a new oil filter.
Radiator fluid may need changing but the radiator isnt over-heatin or nething and is goin sweet azz.
Think she may need new spark plugs or even a new battery coz she doesnt seem to want to start if the headlights are on from time to time.
Mechanically i have no idea what she may need. I have taken her on a few rides lately and shes going amazingly well and since shes clocked over so many kms i really wanted to know if she was due for some tlc from a mechanic.
Cheers,
Nish :)

You can always come to my place on a weekend and we can start changing plugs, coolant, chain lube, oil, filter, clean air filter. Engine stuff like cam-chain, valve clearence, fork seals better leave it to the shop.

I have a copy of the 7r service manual in pdf (after all... I did own one ;)), can give you a digital copy some time... saves you downloading it at expense.
I generally serviced it every 5k, minor service of fluids etc on the 5, and a major service on the 10's... I let the shop do the work, Mt Eden has a,b,c services... so it was A on 10, and C on 5.
Keep an eye on the coolant bottle. The originals had a nasty habit of splitting around the mountings, and Kawasaki now sells them with metal inserts in the holes, to stop them splitting. Don't know if your year model had this cured already.

Gidday Bomma,
Work on doing an oil & filter change every 5000k, at that stage it's always good to give the old girl a quick once over - check & adjust chain, lube all the pivot points, check air filter etc etc
Generally Kawasaki's work on 10 ~ 12 k for top end check etc etc
If you get stuck P.M me, I'm not to far form you - happy to give you any advice you may need
B.T.W Is that you that comes out by the golf course & heads left up the hill to the roundabout by Dominion Rd extn most mornings ? (If so, thats a bloody nice example you got yourself there... :niceone: )
Perodic maintanence table attached (ZX 750-P6)
Cheers

Just wanna compare it to the one gremlins got to see if there is anything else i may need to get done. And no i do live around there but i normally go down hillsborough rd....wonder hu this other zxr rider is....wud be good to have a meet with the guy and form a zx7r club :2thumbsup
hey kim yea mate ill definately do as much servicing as i can myself just to save on costs (i am after all a piss poor student) so will be knockin on your door sometime soon!!!
and last but not least, imdying i hear ya mate red baron isnt my preferred choice but i hafnt heard great things about mt eden mcycles either so thot i was picking the lesser of two evils here....might be wrong....wish there was a reliable kwaka dealership around

i just clocked over 35000kms on my '01 ZX7R and was wondering what kind of servicing it needed!!!
Shims and buckets will need checking.
I replaced the rear shock about this time as well.
Steering head bearings were done also.
That's all I can remember right now

I don't think any uni server (nor your inbox) would love a 200mb file... I can post up the checklist to tide you over, if you want it...
You got a pc at home? I don't have any cd's handy, so was thinking of bringing it over on a portable hdd, and just giving you a copy...

I can't help you with your servicing, but I'd just like to say, that is a lovely motorcycle.
I have one of my teenage dreambikes, the other was the ZX-7R.

hey guys thanks for all your advice and help!!!
i called around to heapsa dealerships that id never heard of and some that i had....realised that most of em were a ways away..like over the shore...dad wouldnt follow me there and cart my ass back into uni, cudnt afford to get it picked up from my place and cudnt afford not having a ride to uni for a couple of days so a bit of a pickle....
but then i realised that the answer was right in front of me!! know the guys at wild west pretty well now and realised that i could just take it into them....dad was sweet with followin me out to new lynn coz its pretty close to home so off we went...
dropped her off, the ol' man had a look at some of the hondas (musta brought back memories from ancient times when he used to once upon a time ride bikes) jokes hes only just turned fifty...been riding longer than ive been alive me ol' man has!!
picked her up the next day and she felt like 20kgs lighter and like she'd gained 15bhp!!! thought they musta given me the wrong bike but nope she was my pretty lil kwaka so i am FULLY satisfied!!! :2thumbsup

Get the old man to buy himself a new ride mate. That will solve so many of your problems.

lol i wish!! a brand spankin new cb900 is a long way from the 98cc bikes he used to ride back when he was a "hooligan"....prolly gimme a lecture if i take him on rides for excessive leaning on corners
but on the other hand he'll prolly service and wash my bike eveytime he services and washes any bike he gets....hmmm might not be a bad idea after all :2thumbsup
