Still in the planning stage and nothing is signed off - but it's looking good.
We felt that the event needed more definition so Mr Ix and I went and saw McDonalds Charities about starting the event at McDonalds and using it to raise money for a good cause.
We still have to meet with their people but we're hoping that there will be some incentive to start at a Maccas - get a free 'whatever' - kick in the charity bucket and ride to work.
I've got all 3 bike publications involved.
Honda are behind it and we look like getting 'A Free Scooter for a Year' and I've been onto the wholesalers and we should be able to give a full set of riding kit as a prize too - just for riding to work.
This is the blurb I've been sending out:
BRONZ is a non-profit organisation that represents the Motorcycle and Scooter rider communities.
Our main activities are submissions to ACC, Transit, and the Govt bodies in matters of concern or safety to riders - as well as an ongoing Rider Safety and Training programs.
We organise Toy Runs and Easter Egg runs every year for the Salvation Army and have Quarterly 'Blood Runs' to donate.
If there is a good cause - bikers are one of the best bunches at rallying around it.
The Auckland event raises thousands of toys for the Sallys every year.
Also Every year we have a National 'Ride to work day'.
(From our poster)
• Because it is fun!
• Because it reduces traffic and parking congestion.
• Because you can get you to work (and home) quicker.
• Because it causes less pollution than larger vehicles.
• Because it is less destructive to roads, bridges etc.
• Because it can save you money.
• Because it demonstrates the wide diversity of people who are motorcyclists and Scooterists.
• Because it raises awareness of riders.
• Because it is fun!!
==================================
Next is a poster to promote it for the bike shops etc.
I'm thinking a good looking sort on a scooter or commuter and we dress him/her up in legal robes and wig and park it outside the courts sort of thing.
But open to suggestions and if anybody would like to design something go ahead.
Meantime put it in your social agenda. 7/11/07.
Ride to work. BD says. Details as they come to hand.
