Should I bring my Hayabusa?

canarlee
6th September 2007, 22:40
you can buy them here!

what you should look at though is shipping costs etc, it might (probably) be worth selling the one you have there and buying another when you get here!

oh and bienvenido a la casa loca

Well It cost me less than the price of an equivalent ZX9 purchased in NZ to ship mine out from the UK nearly four years ago.

Probably best to get one when you're here - stateside ones use MPH and it's a pain in the arse looking at the speedo and thinking 100 = 62.5, 80 = 50, 70 = 43.75, 60 = 37.5, 50 = 31.5 etc.

HOWEVER, it might also be that you've got one of those merkin style 'busas with a 3 mile long swingarm. Then I'd definately get a different one when you get here. Local bikes need to go round corners more so than bikes in the USA. we have less money for road development therefore roads are narrower and have more corners.

Welcome.

quicksilver - it would all depend on how much work you have on your current hayabusa, i mean if you have thrown lots $$$ at it, might be worth bring it, but have to becareful you might have to change alot of things back to stock so it can be vined to be used on our roads (you can always put stuff back on once vined), but remember the new busa is out end of this year, so could always move and buy a new one?

Anyone know if you can combine shipping? If your bringing a container of furniture and personal effects can you stuff a bike or two in their as well?

would think you should be able to, would be best to find a old bike shipping box from local bike shop to help pack it, you would want to empty all petrol etc from the bike before shipping

I'm planning to ship the bike in a container with the rest of my stuff but it still needs a ton of paperwork and duties in NZ as well as the inspection.

Chickenlegs
8th September 2007, 18:05
Don't you only pay tax/duties if you sell the bike within two years and not owned it for more than year, or something?
How long have you owned said motorsickle?
Do you intend keeping it for the foreseeable future?

I think I know where you'll soon be able to pick up a Busa here, I think it's done about 15000k and don't quote me on this but I think he'll be wanting about $14.5k (NZ) for it. Black with the Japanese Hayabusa sign or whatever you call it is in gold.

Dont forget, you will have to put a new headlight in as we drive on the other side of the road here.
May end up costing a bit...

NO WE DON'T - SAME SIDE AS UK - LEFT, LEFT, LEFT!!!!!!!

quicksilver
9th September 2007, 19:31
Yes! I meant LEFT when I said correct. My only experience driving on the left was riding a scooter on the Cook Island. It was easy to remember when there was traffic but I would drift to the right on deserted roads. My ex wife would be yelling LEFT LEFT LEFT!!!

Yeah, but Quicksilver is coming from USA so his headlamp will be set to light the right hand edge of the road.

You need a container with a pallet for tie-downs. Sell all the furniture to make room for the bikes. Have you got your entry clearance, were a bit picky about Aussies coming over here. We've been trying to get rid of all our rubbish to QLD

Have you been sucked into the AirNZ engineering HMV contract with Hawaiian?

Plenty of riders at the airport. Parking is a breeze for staff. Commute time is subastantially less on a 'cickle

here, a 2001 bus can be picked up for about $11k - about US$7.5k.

if it looks like this one though, leave it in the USA

Very good marty, yes that's what I'm coming for. I'm moving from from Hawaii. Haha it looks kinda like that not as much chrome not that long. I was going to build it to drag race here but they closed down the track so it's been slowly going back to stck. OK 4" longer, wheelies scare me.

If you're bringing your other stuff in a container then yes. If you're shipping it separately then no. $hite old Bikes (i.e. over 3 years old) are expensive here though. Other NO reason is that NZ speed limit is really low.

Bring over bike gear and spares (breakers here go mooooo) though.

Very good! ANZES is not too bad to work for, although they had just finished a big lay-off, and now are struggling to get the guys to come back! I took redundancy from there 3 years ago, but still work for the AirNZ group in Hamilton. I don't suppose you have a PT6 rating?????

Good bunch of guys up there. Hangar can get a bit cold though, and the 767 dock has a habit of moving so much it sets off the alarms. Good food at the cafe, and a nice flash locker/meal room. Try and get a position down at the domstic overnight hangar, or down on the line. Are you coney or mech? Licenced or trade?

I'll still be working for Hawaiian. The FAA wanted someone in NZ with an FAA A&P license so I got the job. I'll be there soon. I'll be the one dressed like an Eskimo.

don't forget the title papers on your bike. someone on this website had a hell of a time trying to get a bike registered when he didn't have the title papers on it. it was a while back but it was a zzr400 he bought of a friend who brought it over in a container from the uk. anyone remember that thread?

dickytoo
12th September 2007, 18:30
couldn't find that thread but here's another guy from the states who brought his bike over and this is what he had to say:

Seems like you got lots of good advice already but.....I just wanted to say I brought my bike here from USA and it wasn't expensive at all. As long as you have papers showing ownership and keep possession of the vehicle for a minimum of 2 yrs after arriving in NZ, it costs $80 for MAF inspection and tax based on vehicle value.

It was really easy and not expensive at all.....what WAS a hassle and expense was getting the VIN inspection.........if your bike is stock you probably won't have any hassles, I had HEAPS of hassles on that process as my bike was built and lots of custom parts........

marty
12th September 2007, 18:39
oh excellent - you'll be in the pre-fabs out the back! i'm not up there any more, but i'm guessing the 76's will be in the 'new' dock in the big hangar? shouldn't think they'll be in the old DC-10 dock at the runway end of the hangar. have you been for a visit yet?

You'de be surprised how easy it is to NOT get confused. Only time I've ever driven on the wrong side here is when I was being a silly cunt on a deserted road and wanted to scare my mates in the passenger seats. Never done it on the bike despite the worries of everyone else in my family.

As per bringing or selling your bike, sell it.
It's not all that expensive to ship bike over here and all that, but do you really want to wait six months before it even arrives in the country and then another month or so before customs clears it, then however long it takes to get another headlight that is shaded on the correct side and then another few months before LTNZ stops being lazy assholes and sends the paperwork through to make it fully road legal in NZ?

Hey Dude, good luck with the move, when you getting over matey, NZ maff, were all over my vespa like a rash when I got here, but got my baby here okay in the end, when they unwrapped the packing and all when argh, tis sweet, she is.
