Phew. Work-related, eh? I had nameless fears that I'd made it onto one of those Highway Patrol reality TV shows, or summat.
Yeah. Um. Pricey, ain't they? Fun, though. And if any of you want to play with one for a while, or are going overseas and want to 'test' it in unfamiliar environs, I can probably lend you a unit. Quiet-like. ;)

Probably. We've done a bunch of driving around the country with it.
Does that mean you want a go with one? Unfortunately I'm in Auckland and so are all the test units...

Nup. Not waterproof and the mounting equipment isn't very appropriate. At this point in time we don't have any dedicated motorcycle products in the market, I'm afraid.

You should add a police radar detector feature showing the exact location of cops on the monitor somehow. That'll sell like hot cakes after that.

My Scots blood says $4,000 dollars will buy a lot of road maps and pay a lot of tickets if I'm silly enough to get pinged for speeding, :sly: :2thumbsup

I used one of these type devices in the US once. It told me exactly how far till my next turn and everything. Didn't take into account that in the week since the device was fitted that a street that had been one way <- was now the other way -> I turned <- into it, and nearly had a headon!
But, a water proof housing unit would be awesome - especially if it could be fitted below the windshield and above the instruments... I wonder how long it'll be before givi or someone comes out with something for it.
I like - can I have one?

Does it have all the silly little roads I like to ride on?.....but,I kinda like thinking...'I wonder where that road goes?,sometimes it'd be nice to know it went nowhere,or looped back the way I just come....or ended on a quad track high on a cliff - but where's the adventure in that eh?
Is it Westy proof?,like can you use it with an Export stubby in one hand and a bit of ging muff in the other? - it needs the Westy test mate....

If my father-in-law can use it, which he does, I doubt there's much it's NOT proof against.
He prefers Tui, but.

Yes.

It *does* have the location of every fixed speed camera and shows warnings on the screen with an alarm as you approach them.
That feature's particularly popular in the UK. I'm not sure if we have that speed camera location data for anywhere other than NZ and the UK, though.

So JR, when are you going to release an optional 'pace notes' module for popular NZ roads?
"Three left minus tightens keep in one hundred two slippy caution over crest.."
I think I've still got some notes for Old North Rd, but I could never find someone prepared to read them for me :spudwhat:

If you're interested in pace note/GPS integration, one of the guys in my team runs a rally car in his spare time. He's been tinkering with datalogging stuff, trying to integrate GPS. Main problem is, GPS chips only integrate and report once a second. Not quite enough positional resolution for high-speed sequential corners.
Do you want his email addy?

Not really, I was just dreaming out loud. :doobey:
I'm too poor for any of the technology stuff anyway, in fact, my mobile is like three years old! Yes, I get mocked reguarly for it by all the c00l k1dz at uni.
T'was thinking an audio comentary of the severity of upcomming corners might appease the biker gods that have been smiting KB rides recently..

This is what I've been trying to find out a bit about for my Uni project!
JR - doesn't anyone import those Garmin motorbike mounts? I don't know that much about it all but they seem like a good option, except they're designed for their specific GPS units.

Garmin? That's a six-letter four-letter word. Wash yo' mouth out.
I posted to your GPS project thread. Didn't you see it? I did wonder why you never responded.
Anyways, I don't know about the Garmin mounts... you'd have to find out who imports Garmin gear and ask them. Certainly they wouldn't fit Navman units without modification. And anyway, our car navigators aren't waterproof. They'd probably go 'pop-fizzle-hiss' and stop working the first time it rained.
