How much money do you spend/have you spent on security measures for your bike/s?
Talking about anything from disc locks, chains, padlocks, covers, alarms, ground anchors, garages, cameras etc etc

Damnit! you've just reminded me one of the many reasons I hate living in Auckland, can't wait til I can afford to move further out of town and keep big gorgeous dogs like that again:love:

I use the steering lock is all, who wants to steal a ratted Zongshen zs200? Just park next to a scooter or somthing and they always look more attractive next to my bike.

At home the bike is kept in a garage (with two side bolt door, so far more secure than those terrible single pin up and over doors that you can ping open with a glue spreader).
At work, there is a carpark with a specific bike bay - attendant on permanent duty and there are barriers at the entrance and exit.
When parked at home in the garage, I just put on steering lock. At garage near work, I add the disclock.
If I have to park "in the open" if I have to go into work at the weekend, I take a padlock and chain as well... and our security guard is very good and keeps an eye on it via the security camera.
Parking at the supermarket, can't really take the chain, so disclock and steering lock.
Finally (sorry, gone on a bit!), if Laura and I are out for a ride together and we stop for lunch or whatever, then disclock on both bikes, with chain through rear wheels to make it really hard for scumbag. If possible, we will also sit where we can see the bikes.
Nothing like having a bike stolen a few years ago (it still makes me angry when I think of it) to make you a little paranoid...

Steering lock, or if feeling insecure a padlock and cable. It's garaged in a locked internal-access garage at home parked in front of two cars, so harder to move. Though on the Cancer Kids Toy run I left it in the street with the key in the ignition...
I know of a couple down the Waikato with a Harley each, bolted and locked to the concrete floor in a locked, alarmed garage behind locked gates just outside their alarmed house right near their bedroom window. Yup! Both gone!

My bike is only ever in 3 places.
1: Locked securely in my Garage at home.
2: Locked securely in my Garage at work.
3: Under my arse roaring that Ducati Roar.
No need for security.

ST has a chipped key so it's immobilised and steering lock. At 300+ kg someone would need a hiab to take it.

I leave mine in an unlocked garage with the key in the ignition. 12' of razor wire between that and the road though.

Mine is locked in a garage at home, with steering lock on. If out and about, will just make sure steering lock is on, and I've generally got her in my line of sight...

Problem is now days if your puppy bites some asshole who committing a crime on your property the poor beasty gets a bullet and you get prosecuted, and the offender (sorry isn't that alleged offender) gets a slap on the wrist with a wet bus ticket.
I like my dog so at home if they want anything they can take it, except the dog, take that I go hunting.

My last wouldn't eat anything unless I gave it to her... and i never trained her to do that...
Went on holiday she wouldn't eat when the neigbours came to feed her... and she knew the neighbours... had to cut short my holiday.
When she was in the vets for a couple of days she wouldn't eat (I had to go in and feed her and she was fine)
Would not eat anything even after showing her it was ok... we tried all sorts of experiments. I had to give it to her to say it is okay to eat this.
The other thing was if she didn't know you she would let you on the property but wouldn't let you off it... as a courier driver once found out...
sigh I miss Tara... :(

Yeah, good point (unfortunately). I mean, I have trained dogs in the past, and so have a fair idea as to how to get mine sorted appropriately, but it's no longer seen as a valid safety net by the law.
Maybe I should get some geese...mean little buggers, and excellent alarm system...Besides, if they get shot, then you got dinner sorted!

Currently got the steering lock and it's chained to a tree in my backyard with the heaviest chains sold by Bunnings Warehouse, can't be seen from the road.
I plan on getting an alarmed disc lock when I can afford it.
That's it.
Security is important for me as I don't have or plan to get insurance (have 3rd party personal only).

Hope its a big tree... nothing a 4X4/tractor could pull over?
The thing that always cracks me up is people spend heaps of money on security measures like chains and expensive padlocks... yet they leave angle grinders and bolt cutters in the garage... the scumbags just use your own tools to steal your bike!

Why thank you...the other option would be to have booby traps, but as I have a forgetful 10 year old son, that could become slightly dangerous...
One way to learn though, I guess...

It's a very big tree and they wont be able to do anything without waking a few households up. They don't need a tractor, just a bolt cutter. I need to buy that alarmed disc lock...... every cent I spend on these things is money I don't have for trackdays.......

Disc lock, chain and second lock, locked garage, viscious dog, big stick.
We also live in a neighbourhood with lots of lovely policemen. I'm sure we'll all be quite safe.

Gets kept in integral garage, garaged locked at night. That's it. Crime free neighbourhood, where I am the suspect if I wear a beanie.
At work it's parked in a carpark, carpark has camera surveillance. Can park in a swipecard access only lockup, but too much hassle to get in & out, parked with other cretins machines who don't give a toss about scratching others.
Choose not to live like a victim before I am.

When it is ever parked outside, I keep it completely hidden under a shitty looking (and secured) bike cover.

Nothing, no locks/chains, i don;t even use steering lock.
Locked in a internal garage at nite, and usual its not out of my side, @ work it parks right outside my window.
I had a bad habit of leaving my keys in my bike, i had parked previous bikes in middle of tauranga city for hours on end with keys inthem, and nothing ever happened.

Just like on the 'Simpsons', if you want something stolen, just put a bike lock around it:rofl:

I normally just lock the steering, but then, it is an older bike so doesn't attract quite as much attention.

While home it is in a secure/covered park in wellington CBD, pay $100/month for that. It also chained to the wall.
At work we have secure garage so just the steering lock to stop people from trying to move it without asking me.
