Hey everyone,

My old man had a low side on the weekend, now the bike has a couple of problems.... i havnt looked hard yet, but here is what is wrong

The hard wired head light isnt working BUT the pass light still works....

The major problem is that the Starter Motor wont turn off, it just runs non stop, i dont have to hit the starter button because as soon as i turn the key, the bike starts...... Is there a way i can fix this or possible problems that are causing this????, it is still running fairly well (still pulls like a fucking train....) but not as smoothly (im guessing because of the starter motor running)

PLEASE HELP ME AS SOON AS POSSIBLE!!!!

Cheers, Chris

Disconnect the starter for a start then take it out & check .May have jammed the driver out Sensei

first one - you've likely blown the bulb from the impact... had the same thing when a BERERERT#$%#$% SUV driver hit my bike and knocked it over. In my bike high beam (passing beam) was a second brighter bulb... just check it.

Second... try disconnecting the electric start switch, if that is perminantly on then it will cause the starter to fire. So try and rule out that you've busted the switch.

Hope that helps, I don't knock much more but those simple things are the ones that I'd miss...
(well I did, I rode for 2 months without a frount headlight and didn't realise it)

FAAAAARK,don't run it with the SM running. That can cause MAJOR damage.
Check the switch/button,like pull it apart an look at it.
Check the starter relay with a multi meter,if it,s letting power through when the ignition is turned off,it's stuffed.
That's what I would check first, with the relay being the most suspect.
If this proves nothing go to a shop, but don't run the bloody thing.

It's more likely the bar switches because a low side is not going to damage a starter or solenoid, same with the lights, check the switches.Yeah, and don't run the motor with the bloody starter on,they are only built to do a couple of hundred rpm,not 9,000!

oh...too late I see,forget I even bothered eh?

Just a little side note,a bike starter(unlike a car one)will (normally)NOT speed up with engine rpm,as they generaly use a sorta one way arrangement so it slips when the engine is going. The starter will only continue at it's own max unloaded speed.

I noticed that when I pulled that crankcase side cover off my bike for you to weld. The big gear on the end of the crankshaft could spin freely in one direction, smooth as, not clicking of a ratchet or anything, but in the other direction it was locked solid. I thought that was pretty cool, I've got no idea how it works...

sorry to hear TS! hope hes okay!

anything else dude? and yeah most bikes do have a 1 way bearing in the sprocket that runs onto the starter motor etc, or least the viffer does

still it cant be good for a starter motor to be winding over for any long period of time - obviously it couldnt be helped so yah gotta cross your fingers and hope eh!

any more problems there TS? i can plastic weld anything that needs plastic welding dude just like milkys if it needs it.

Again hope hes fine and the bike gets sorted fully.
