Maybe "current street events" wouldve been better Frosty , but thought the old farts might like to comment on some of the circuits that in there day were pretty big events (& some were a tad 'unforgiving", Hamilton springs to mind)

I'm voting on Hamilton, cause I raced around the "new" track (well, it wasn't closed off and I wasn't going fast - was actually driving a car at the time), but yeah... the new track is gonna be awesome and it will be good for bike racing too methinks...

Can you add Onekawa (Napier), Hawkesbury (Blenheim) and Porirua for the old farts too. In the meantime I voted Wanganui.

Yip Onekawa was pritty good.

I first went there about 1970 and saw the likes of Geoff Perry against Dale Wylie and Trevor Discombe and that was when I first saw how fast those boys could go, standing about 2m away (roughly 6' in those days eh) from them as they raced down the straights and the noise of the stingers was something in the days before mufflers.

Merv, I can remember one of my first intros to Street racing when Geoff Perry asked me to move a couple of feet out from the curb " Cos he was coming thru there " !!! ( He had a pusher cos his leg was damaged) Well bugger me ! he did come thru too !!!!! (Gracefeild early seventies) Gaz.

What about Winton, is it the newest? Looking forward to it at the Burt Munro Challenge in Nov. Cheers.

I don't have a favourite, having never raced a street meeting before. I'm looking forward to Wanganui the most though.

I've written about it on here some time before talking about Perry at Gracefield. I saw him race the TR750 not long before he died and he was so quick that there was nothing but air between him and the rest of the field with Ginger Molloy running a distant second on the Kawasaki. I think that was the 72/73 summer. Somewhere in the depths of our archives back at my Bro's place we will have some low quality photos of that before we had decent cameras.

 I tried voting twice. I want to vote Paeroa because that's the only street circuit Ive ever raced and I absolutely LOVED it! Wanganui is my favourite from a spectator point of view but I did go to one Gisborne Meeting and thoroughly enjoyed that too, despite falling off on the Taneatua Rail bridge on the way home. Those wet railway lines are a tad slippery when wet!

The chairs were there too, are you in this lot somewhere? Sorry my camera wasn't so flash back then and these are scanned from prints.

Here's Stroud on the Blade too and Darren on the Harley.

I think 61 was Simon Turner. 101 is Colin Tate and he still races that Norton, 17 I think was Hugh Anderson.

Last photo has Hepburn leading Tony Rees. Love that Armco and concrete walls - yes those boys were brave.

That whet your appetite OK?

Yup, Auckland street circiut, 1988. I did it on a GSXR1100G.
It was all 90degree turns, second gear all the way around the back & then out to redline in 3rd down the front straight.
I will always remember it as the wheelstand circiut, with all that 2nd gear point & shoot, i spent all day on the back wheel.
It was bloody awesome.

I'd already posted you this a while back http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showpost.php?p=19227&postcount=3 including a nice photo of Robert Holden.

I gave you a few Gracefield and Lyall Bay pics on this thread http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showthread.php?t=1428

and more Lyall Bay here on this R.I.P thread http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showthread.php?t=1464

 mmmmmm racing...... (Great to look at old piccies while you're at home looking after sick kids!)

Yeah, I'm back in 3rd place on the blue sidecar. We couldn't understand why it would only rev to 9 grand - not 11. But when I got home, I did a compression check and found all my inlets were bent!! Buggar!!
I proposed to my wife at prizegiving that night too, in front of the big names -Robert Holden, Aaron Slight etc - was a day to remember!!
Thanks for the pics.

Yes I raced the Wellington event and loved it,probably because it was a local race that alot of friends and workmates were able to come to.
But I think Paeroa is my favorite street race.

And yes I also remember and raced at Masterton, horrible place to race,as the surface broke up really badly, stones and tarmac flying everywhere.

Geez Jimmy - you are in for some serious fun. No1 rule at Wanganui - nail the start.

Voted for Gracefield, Have memories of watching it as a kid in the 70's with a neighbour who was a sports photogragher for the Evening post, plus racing at it in mid eighties.
