A biker who rode side-saddle through a busy city centre claimed it was because he had cramp, a court heard.

Derek Steen, 28, was spotted by police riding with both legs on one side of the bike in Invernes town centre. When pulled over, he also admitted to riding standing up, claiming it was because he was suffering from cramp and wanted to stretch his legs.

The arresting officers said that Steen would not have been able to use his rear brake while sitting side saddle and it would also have been difficult for him to control the bike's gears.

Steen, who admitted “it was a stupid thing to do”, was fined £500 and had three penalty points put on his driving licence, which brought it up to 12 points resulting in a six month ban.
