So, can you? Would you expect somebody to be able to etc?

No.

Great poll. I always wanted to know this.

You think we should create another poll to find out how many people can ride with both hands tied behind their back?

No.

The one thing I don't like about my helmet is the dainty wee clip/buckle, I struggle with it even without ferkn' gloves on.

Having said that I never bothered trying even with the trusty D rings, takes me less than a second to lose the gloves.

Will tying my hands behind my back make me a better rider? :scooter:

Yep
Nolan Ratchet style closure. I've been through a few lids in my time and this one is by far the easiest I've used.

I can do it (it's one of those click on click off straps) but it's not easy.

Summer Gloves: Yes if I have to.
Winter gloves: Yes if I really, really, really have to.

More importantly tho, there is no way I can get my fly undone with gloves on....I mean whats the point of waterproof gloves if you have to take them off when you need them?

I can handle D-rings with my summer glubs, but not my winter ones.

Yea, I can take my helmet off while wearing gloves but no way in hell have I ever got it on and strapped up with the gloves on.

Just the other day I put my gloves on before my helmet. So I tried to look cool and pretended to check them for a fittiing issue before removing them and starting again. I'm sure I fooled everyone who was watching.

McJim

D ring - no way summer or winter gloves.

Clip - no problem. I still put gloves on last and remove gloves first out of habit though.

Note to self - don't shake hands with crisis management when he's wearing winter gloves.....

Yup. Cos I use fingerless gloves.

But not in the winter.

ah but can you put your gloves on and take them off with your helmet on?? thats the real trick....took me years to perfect the technique, if anyone wants any pointers I'd be happy to help out....

Classic poll dude! I have never tried so voted no. Now having said that I am going to try on both helmets and try the d ring and the clip and see how fast I can do it.

Choice poll... If I put my gloves (winter) ones on first then helmet, I always have to take one glove off again to do up the D bits...
with summer gloves on, I think I accidently put gloves on first, but did helmet up with them on ok.

As McJim said... out of habit, helmet goes on first anyways :)

Is there any diff in terms of safety between D ring do up helmets n clip up ones?

Apparently there are no records of a D ring fastening failing in an accident....ever....but I HEARD that so it could be bullshit.

Yup. Cos I use fingerless gloves.

But not in the winter.

You are too bloody brave for my liking. It is too bloody cold to wear fingerless gloves down here.

Yep, I had never tried before, with more practice I wouldn't fumble too much.
trick is knowing where the inserted tounge is within the gloves.
Works with BMW gortex winter weights & Spidi H2out.

One has found that the "mission critical" part of wearing a helmet is doing things in the right sequence.

One's mantra is "SEQUENCE".

1. Earplugs in.
2. Glasses off.
3. Helmet on (visor facing forward)
4. Glasses on
5. Strap secured
6. Gloves on.

Occasionally one forgets one's mantra, such as on Sunday whilst departing from the Fush, one noted that one had gone straight to step 6. Over nearly five years of motorcycling, one has at times, attempted nearly all combinations of the above sequence. Suffice it to say there is only one order that works.

Nope. D rings are a bastard!

WRT
13th September 2007, 12:34
Yes, one handed even!

How do I know this? Cause I hopped on the motorway one day only to find my strap started to whack the side of my helmet . . . 15 years of motorcycling and I had still somehow managed to put on my helmet and ride off without fastening it up.

The sensation on ones "Helmet" is almost always better without gloves..... Oh woops, Wrong Forum :o:

...Off to make sexual innuendo elsewhere

Seriouly though, I cant do D rings with Gloves (Summer or Winter) ON. Sometimes I wonder whether with such a lack of co-ordination I should be riding at all...

When I'm very lucky and the delivery drivers at work ring up sick, I get to abandon the hell of posh Remuera gits and escape to the world of night-time delivery riding. Wo0o0o0.

What does shit me, however, is that once I get there, if I were in a car I could just pop off seatbelt, and knock on the door. However on a bike there's the helmet thing and to get that off you need to take off your gloves.

I'm not sure what despatch riders on this forum do, but I've started streamlining the process; one gloves off, enough to undo a D-ring (and put it back on) and filch change out of my pocketses.

What do delivery riders do? Do they have some special magic glubs? Or just not bother?

I can't do the double-D rings with my gloves on but I can't honestly think of a reason I'd want to take my helmet off without taking my gloves off first. The gloves would get in the way when putting on my sunnies anyway

The other thing is I'd have to put my helmet down while I took my gloves off... I'd rather my gloves fell off the tank!

Nope, but may be able to soon. Gloves are nearly worn out - will be able to poke finger tips through ends and operate D-ring. Best be visiting bike shop again...

Yes. Yet another reason to buy Nolan helmets

Bullitt
13th September 2007, 20:27
Have never tried, doubt I can
Dont really see much advantage in it, If Im putting a helmet on or off I can take 2 seconds to take gloves off (or put them on after)

same- but prefer the clip! Do they still sell them at the moment?

clip on helmet, i can, but with difficulty. wear fingerless in the summer, so obviously can, but the neos are full and make it tricky. if i forget [sometimes i put the gloves on when leaving the house, while carrying keys and sunnies etc in lid.] i just rip em off and then put em back on.

I'm with Hitcher, except substitute sunnies for glasses. I have the clip type strap on my helmet.
