Since the FXR has won it moves onto the next bike I've seen / like / might buy on saterday.
Its a Black GPX250 1991 with about 43000k's
I cant get it into a shop to get a pre purchase check done as both the owner and I are at work and they dont do shizzle on saterdays :S
So I got a VIR done on it and it came up with a few surprises.
Heres the link
VIR report (http://www.motorweb.co.nz/reference/72d89fd4)
The odometer is inconsistant (twice)
This isnt nessaverally a bad thing as it can be human error, (the guy reading it looks at it and then goes to write it down but forgets the last 3 didits and makes them up ect ect or just jots down the wrong number or his 1 looks like a 7 when its entered into the computer)
And the bike has been Deregisted
And its had 15 owners.....
what are your thoughts?

And its had 15 owners.....
Some people might think that for a 1991 bike that's a bit excessive.
If I weren't the trusting, innocent naive sort of person that I am, I would possibly be a bit suspicious about that...

Well out of the 15 owners at least 4 are dealers and one guy appears twice so he might be an "unregistered" dealer? That leaves say 9 owners in 13 years which probably isn't too bad for a 250cc bike considering people tend to trade-up as soon as they have their full licence.
On the other hand the latest owner has only had the bike for 2 months so have they found a problem with it and are trying to move it on?
The mileage errors look more like data entry errors than attempts to wind the odometer back as the differences are fairly small. The bike didn't do much mileage between 1996 and 1998 which matches the period of deregistration so maybe it was laid up in somebodies garage for a while?

Damn those VIR reports kick ass! Don't you have to pay to do them, and how much is it?

25 bucks, 0900 number or credit card but if u use someone elses phone its free (hehehe )
yeah there good people should post more of them up here for bikes on trademe ect you so if somone else was looking at that bike they dont have to pay,
The lady who owns it now says "Dont have the time to ride"
She said he has kids and work so no time to ride,
If i was her i'd put the kids to work and go ride, If you cant live off your kids who can you live off?
Your parents.

I'd still get the FXR - 43,000kms, that bike is getting on a bit. Have you got trademe sending you the results of new 250 searches? Save a search for " *250* " and it should then email you all new listings of 250s. Easy way to get on top of things - oh and you can limit it to Auckland too I think...

The sentiment I agree with. The wording I dont... hmmm....A small bruise or two never hurt anyone, as long as it is deserved. Smack kids around, beat kids - seems a bit OTT to me...

dont do it buddy, bought a similar bike with a mate few months ago. Horrible thing that never made it to the road.
Gearbox was shot.
If ya gonna buy a cheap bike - make sure its on the road before u buy it.
Or it may never get that far

i had an older one... an 87. was a good learners bike, it had only done about 20k when i brought it tho.
good enconomy but to get any proformance you really have to thrash em.
i blew mine up, via bouncing 6 of 8 valves and crashing it.
FXR's are pretty cool, but no good if your taller than 5'6" and heavier than 70kg. really good handling and light on the gas and maintenance. at mate of mine brought one new and did over 45k km's on it with the same front tyre and set of brake pads.
i reconmend that you buy a four cyl, especailly a FZR 3LN. thats what i got after my GPX and was a really good bike. it was rather tame bike but if you wanted to give it nuts it had a good motor and chassis that could keep up with most others (250's)
just keep looking mate, you will know when you find the right one!! :niceone:
