I have been looking on the LTSA site and am a little confused.

Background--

I am 51 years old and never had a cage licence.

Have held a motorbike licence for 35 years.

Clean.

After falling off I am under pressure from my family and friends to get a cage licence.

Question

Does my 35 years of road use count for nothing?

Do I have to get a learner licence?

If so how long do I have to hold a learner licence for before going for restricted?

Shortest time one can hold resrticted before going for full is 3 months, any one done this?

Talk to me people. Never really thought much about driving a car but these old bones feel the pain of a bin a lot more than they used to.

Been looking on Trademe for a cheap ute. So I can slap the bike on the back and get to the drags etc.

Yes you do have to have a learners license but you are better ring AA and they can tell you the time ranges etc and what are required of ya.

Hey Mr M.

This link here might help ya http://www.landtransport.govt.nz/factsheets/45.html

Unfortunatly you do need to follow the same lines as everyone else when going for your cage license. The times between each stage are shorter for you though

You have to go through the whole process, starting with a learners cage license, then restricted, then full.

Being over 25, you get a discounted time between them thou.. from memory its Learners -> Restricted is 6 months, Restricted > Full is 6 months. Both halved if you do a defensive driving course.

Unfortunately your 35 years counts for nothing as did my 20 years of cage driving when I got my bike license.
