View Full Version : When going that extra mile really makes all the difference

I am currently one of the happiest motor bikers in the country at the moment and here’s why.
A couple of weeks ago I decided to make a new purchase and I am now the proud owner of the new Daytona 675.
I did however find that even though I am living in Auckland had to make a trip to Hamilton to make this purchase because I am just finding some of the bike dealers in the Auckland region to be difficult to deal with and sometimes even couldn't careless if I existed or not.
Here is just one example of my experiences:
Yesterday I called a local Auckland bike shop who supplies genuine Triumph parts whose name starts with A and ends in P.
I was in the need of a seat cowl for my recent purchase and had done my homework and found the retail price would be $388. The guy at the store told me that the cost would be $401 and if I wanted to order it I had to pay a deposit of $200. All which I thought was fine but questioned that the price had increased and he assured me that this was what the Triumph site was telling him and I was a bit taken back that I had to fork out $200 as a deposit which is 50% of the total purchase.
I thought forget this there has to be an easier way - for f-sake I'm a valued customer who is going to spend a lot on bike gear (I am a woman after all we like to accessorise).
So I then called Hamilton Motorcycles who also is a genuine Triumph parts dealer and asked them about ordering a seat cowl. To my surprise the price was $388 (and even less once I received my RAT membership discount of 10%) and what was even better they called Triumph directly for me ordered the part and had them courier it directly to my work in Auckland at no extra charge.
When I arrived into the office this morning at 8.30am there was my seat cowl waiting for me with no hassles, no extra mark-ups and paid for with no 50% deposit problems.
I have also spoken to a few other people who are over the attitude that some of these Auckland dealers are giving off and have been making that trip to Hamilton to receive that extra customer service. So thanks Hamilton Motorcycles for making my biking experience easier than it needs to be.
After all the customer is always right.

i think the problem here is auckland powersports.
the parts guy there is a dick and rips people off, he sells broken second hand stuff and claims it was fine when he sold it and then it takes months to get your money back of them. i know im never going to buy anything form them again. i have also heard of them selling warped brake rotors and trying to get out refunding unless you threaten to take them to the commerce comission. (happened to a friend)

Oh so it was you that bought the demostrator before I got a ride on it eh. Hmmmm.
They're definitely a good crew in there. Usually quite pricey though but best service around.

One of the guys even offered to meet me on a Sunday so that I could take the Daytona for a test ride because I couldn't make it on a Saturday.

Yeap I snapped it up, they offered it to me for a good price I thought. Even put on a new back tyre at no charge because I didn't like the one on it, threw in a genuine Triumph carbon tank pad and fitted the alarm on it in less than an hour.
Any questions I've had about the new bike I've found them to be really helpful. When I went to amps in Auckland they never took me seriously that I could actually be purchasing that kind of bike and if you think Hamilton are pricey amps offered me their demo at $19k all because it had a couple of aftermarket accessories one of which Hamilton gave me for free.

They even allowed me to park my incontinent Ducati out front while she was buying the bike and gave me free Ducati pencils and free coffee.
My bike made beautiful rainbows on the wet pavement [edit] Bike isn't incontinent any more - big ups to Auckland Motorcycle Surgery, College Hill Auckland! (behind/under Motomail)

My two cents worth,
I have had some dealings the parts guy at the Hamilton Motorcyle Centre. He's Steve from memory, good guy, very helpful and knows his stuff (as he should) and quick with his parts.
Bay City Motorcycles in Tauranga are also good to deal with :niceone:
However found that sales man at the honda shop across the road from the Hamilton Motorcyle Centre didnt take me very seriously when I was looking at bikes to buy, felt like I was an inconvenience to him. So didnt buy a bike from them, and I'm glad that I have my BRIGHT blue kawasaki now from another shop.

Its always nice to hear a satisfied customer story but equally its sad to hear about those that don't deliver the service.
More importantly, you're happy about the sales experience, but what about the bike - tell us what you think of it?

I brought a BMW from them in 1995 (I know, a long time ago) and was very happy with their level of service. Made the trip down to Hamilton worth it.
Glad to hear that you are happy and that the service levels at HMC have been maintained. If I win lotto I'm be down there the following day!

I have nothing but happy, happy, joy, joy with my new bike. It is light (165kgs dry), full of horses (125 hp), loves the corners and it is waiting for me to catch up. I can't see myself not getting bored of this bike for a while, it has everything I was looking for and more. Will be taking it on the Taupo track in Nov/Dec so we can get to know each other better. I am in love:eek:

Fair comment. Why don't you head down there and see for yourself. When McJim and others came with me to pick up my new bike they let some of guys take bikes for test rides while I filled out my paperwork.
Pete one of the guys who I've dealt with offered to map out rides for us to do in area if we need new weekend rides. Just found them so much more friendly and helpful then Auckland thats all.

I collected a couple of PWs & TTRs to drag to Muriwai for a guy and his kids to try out. He bought something else and never showed. Ah well, my boy and his mate had a good time. I'd have done it even if he was a "hot" chick.

I've heard nothing but good about the 675s as well. Plus they are the best looking bike being made at the moment. Though . . . . . . there was that magazine article about taking a 675 and a GSXR to the track for 24hrs.

Whilst we are talking of service (or lack of it) in Auckland.
I can give "big-ups" to the guys at Holshot on the Shore. Not only did they deliver my bike free of charge, but when I was in the shop and ripped the seat of a brand new Triumph America (hooks on my boot) they were really nice about it. and didnt make me feel like a bastard for damaging it.
I offered to pay but they wouldn't have any of it and said they would sort it out. Was really appreciated.

Thanks Trippy loving my new ride alright, just hard to keep it to the speed limit its so smooth you have to keep checking yourself. Anyway radar is on its way so once that is on will be more fun.
Last time I was at HMC I was talking to James who works in the workshop and he said that they sent him to Oz for a training session specifically on the Triumph 675 so he knows our bikes pretty well.

Love to take a 675 out for a test-ride some stage. They do look and sound great.
Of interest, my Guzzi's previous owner traded it for a 675.

that sounds like the only place to go for me in that case lula. Incidentally nudes i've always wanted a go on a guzzi, must be one of the very few brands i have never got my leg ova

Hmmm,....I've never been to the Bay of Plenty,...could be a good summers weekend ride :scooter:
Tell you now, you have to learn how to ride all over again when you get a Guzzi. Rather strange habits.
What's the riding position like on a 675 ?
When I sat on one at WMCC, I thought it was quite tall rather a very hunched over position, like more extreme than a Gixxer. Be a tad uncomfortable 'round town wouldn't it?
675trippy
14th September 2007, 13:29
the 675's are quite tall parked next to my mates r1 it is taller in the seat height. Only marginally. I try to avoid towns but the little time spent in them i haven't really found uncomfortable at all just the normal sportsbike tired wrists e.t.c. On some really long rides the arse gets a bit achy but if you are doing a few days riding it gets easier. No leg cramps or back aches which is saying something coz both my knees and back are suspect to say the least.

oh and by the way a powercommander and after market exhaust are definately worth the expense. I have the triumph "race track only" exhaust and the sound alone makes it worth it

I must admit that the hamilton dealers are well worth visiting. And you can always find a park.
