Dragging my arse on the ground! Clearance when cornering

When I really lean into the corners, something - the centrestand, I think - scrapes on the ground. This is...somewhat disconcerting when it happens :eek:

It seems to happen more on the right than the left, but for all I know I might have just leaned further on that side, I'm not sure. It only happens when I lean quite a lot.

Has anyone else had this happen and what did you do about it? Could I somehow raise the centrestand a little? Thanks!

Since I fitted and aftermarket exhaust, my center stand doest go up as high as it used to and sometimes scrapes.

Easiest fix in my case is a sidestand.
Dunno if it will work for you, or if they can be brought for your bike?

A Sidestand is a good idea in windy welly anyways :)

As for raising the stand on a PGO? Can't help you there but maybe Pogo can.

Hi Aerox, oops I should have mentioned that I already have a sidestand. Yes it's perfect for Welly wind. And just generally easier. But I do use the centrestand for parking at work coz it's a bit sly, parking by a pillar in the building, and using the centrestand means I don't lean out into anyone's way. It's also quite handy for squeezing into the motorcycle parks around town which are often overflowing. You take up less sideways space on a centrestand.

I use to scrape my center stand on my old XJ (had to repalce it once... then I just took it off, gave me extra bit of clearance) but I had put Cobbie exhausts on which were slightly bigger than the standard which lowered the stand

Yes it can be disconcerting the first couple of times but now you know it can happen you you are corning to the limit of the bike (with way it is setup)

Just went and had a look under the T-Rex and (apart from grease and road grime) it looks like the legs of the centre stand are equally spaced either side (if that makes sense) and would doubt that there is much chance of any adjustment or movement.

May pay to take it back to the dealer and while your at it pick up a pair of knee sliders:rolleyes:, it sound like you might need them!

Never had this problem on the T-Rex, but then some might say I ride like a nana.

My old 1100 does it all the time, its just about fucked the stand. Its not a beautiful thing really as I have had a couple of hard touchdowns on mid-corner bumps that have left me squirreling around a bit. If it wasn't such a handy thing I'd take it off.

Mate on a harley used to shower sparks everywhere off his exhaust - impressive at night!

Not unusual to scrape mainstands - on both my Bandits and my GSX750F the centrestand was the first thing to touch down. Haven't done it on the Concours yet - though I have touched down with the right foot peg. Good warning that you possibly are getting close to the limit of your tyres.

hahahaha...nice one....I was thinking..."man your some mean arse riding to be scrapping your arse on the ground around corners let alone dragging your knee" or "you feel off" but no...its just your centre stand!! obvious soloution...take it back to the shop you deal with and tell them...as they maybe able to adjust the spring preload on the bike...which will help hold the bike higher off the ground while cornering...

weird sensation eh. check the spring on the stand's not sterched or some thing.
other than that - great indicator as to how hard you're pushing lol.
my shoes have bevels on the front right corner of the right one. I cant corner as hard to the left... should really wear my riding boots on the commute.

I scrape the centre stand on my Chinese crappy 50 all the time, I was scraping the side stand as well until I removed that :)

I've just fitted a centre stand to my Hyosung 250 and I've scraped that a few times as well.

make sone new mounts for the shocks and extend the shock by about 5cm that should do it

Well I use a clothesline, rather than a bike, with my pegs. But each to their own.

Hmmm, well this is pretty embarrassing but now that I've put more pressure in my tyres (which were a little down), the problem seems to have gone away :slap:
