View Full Version : WTF? Infringement cancellation?

Not that you would want to look a gift horse in the mouth or anything like that, and undoubtedly in the midst of girding loins etc for a court battle....... then .. :calm::crazy:
:Oi: Why would the NZ Police pull over a vehicle (bike) for speeding :chase: in excess of 130kph, assert that that the radar fix was clear and incontestable, refuse to acknowledge other bikes were in said stream of traffic, refuse to provide calibration certificates, issue the infringement notice and then send out a formal cancellation notice within two days of alleged infringement. :baby::baby:
Has anyone else had this happen?

Yep I got a speeding ticket on the 14th of last month, then last Saturday I got a letter in the post from the Police saying that the Officer had made a mistake when writing the ticket, so they were canceling the ticket, and that if I had already paid the infringment fee that it would be refunded, and all this without me even writing in to them, also I cant for the life of me see any mistake on the ticket.

Post a copy of your ticket! I wasn't intending on trying to get off mine but if it looks like yours....

It sounds like there is a competent traffic Sergeant somewhere who takes a close and active interest on what their frontliners are up to. Good on them!

There's an election coming up next year...they might have been told to back off in the interests of 'public relations'.

You mean we get to elect our cops? I see some possibilities with this.....

Wish they'd done it a few months ago if this was to be the case. Got done for 113 in an 80 $300 and 40 points. first ticket in 15 years!!
Still won't be voting for Labour with the society they are creating.
Nice to see some of you getting off though

We've had this happen a few times over the years. Once for excessive black smoke in our old truck, and we'd clocked up about $700 fines. We eventually got a letter saying the cop had miscalculated it by 19 cents, so it we could disregard the fine. Thank you Mr Officer
I got pulled over about a year ago for passing on a central median. Best service I ever got from a cop (y'know, as nice as it can be). On the ticket he misspelt the street name, said I was passing on a "central media", and even misspelt my occupation. He seemed real nice and I wonder if he did it deliberately...

Recently had a ticket cancelled as per HerB4 but note at the bottom it said
"N.B. The officer may issue a replacement notice at their discretion"
Not complaining but very odd.
Remember kids, demerits are bad...

Hey,
Thanks for your comments everyone. Interesting to see that it does actually happen (I had never heard of it before!! :shit:).
Just to clarify a couple of points:
1. It wasn't me (but it easily could have been) :nono:
2. The letter basically said that that the "infringement notice has been cancelled and no further action would be taken" .... no more - no less.
3. No - the cop was not flashed that I am aware of...

I originally typed that as "what position will The Dover be in" but decided to re-word it...
Someone might think that it's his turn in the barrel...

You're kidding. My last $570 ticket the cop spelled my address wrong even though I clearly read each individual letter to him. Don't tell me I could've fought it lawyer styles?

Iwi Liason Officer?
Just to throw another meaningless story into the pot (it's what I've gotta do, okay?)
I was stopped immediately after the akl harbour bridge in july last year for alledgedly travelling at 124km/h in an 80 zone, so the nice man took my license from me for 28 days - the first thing he said as he got out of his car was "you've just lost your license" He then proceeded to have a rant about how he had taken the licenses of 9 motorcyclists in his last 5 shifts, guess he was proud. Never mind that at the top of the bridge, where he alleged I was doing 124km/h, I was stuck behind two tin-tops doing 80-something... temp loss of license and a $530 fine.
Anyway, I pleaded not guilty, as you do, and a week before the court date the prosecuting officer tells me that it needs to be pushed back 3 months. 3 months later I turn up to court and can't find my name on any of the lists, ask the court receptionist and she told me the police had withdrawn the case 3 months earlier! WTF?
So, seeing as I and my witness (my RGV250-mounted cousin) had the morning off on a beautiful day, we went for a ride, as you do:D
