If they failed you then it must have been leaking?
Or is there a crack that can be seen from outside? If so then your paint work is damaged anyhow.

Tanks that are old and have started leaking in seams I have successfully "fixed" by using tank sealer. You empty the tank, get rid of any loose rubbish/rust from inside and leave to dry. When dry you pour the stuff inside then splash it around for a minute or two. Leave for 24 - 48 hours to dry and it is all done.

Good Luck.

I fixed a small hole in my tank with the generic tank repairer from SupaCheap. Never had a problem since.

Can you post a pic so we can see exactly what they are complaining about?
Are you getting fuel leaking out of it?
