a 1990/something FZR 400 for $150.
All faring there, nothing missing.
Only problems ( apparently ) are, carbs need a little attention and the bike hasn't had a WOF or rego for god knows how long. No ownership papers for the bike. Apart from that the bike runs okish..
Now all this info was given by mouth, I have not checked the bike over yet..
Should I take the offer???
Seems very cheap to me regardless of condition.. They want the space in the garage and nobody residing there rides bikes. It was given to them so they could pull the motor for a buggy and never got around to doing it.
Anyway, what you think?

Do you want the bike to ride or just think you can make some money on it?
With no papers are you confident its legit?

Take it NOW. The fairings alone are worth more than 150 if you can't get it registered.
Edit: Get a lemoncheck etc to make sure it isn't stolen / has money owing on it and shit like that.

the people at VTNZ... They said after getting it all road worthy, they fill out a form forme to take to the police station which basically states there is no vested interest in the bike thus making it mine once it is registered.. Does this sound right?

if its zero index's old one (red/white) dont buy it.

Not too sure yet as to what i want it for but at that price, if it is all legit, I couldn't really go wrong could I?

Dude i'd probably do it the other way round.Just stroll into a cop shop with the rego and Vin number and see if its "of interest"to them.

hopefully the bike will be in my workshop in the next week, that way I can get the rego and vin then head down and do a check....
So if nothing dodgy about it what say you? Go ahead?

If nothing else you've got yourself a track bike that you can bin witout breaking the bank. But yeah, check it's legal and most of all check it's not Mental Trousers' yamaha 750 that got stolen last night.

As long its a 87-90 summat fzr then ya can't go wrong.
You'll need to give the carbs a good huck out, replace the battery, bung new plugs in it and drain the tank/fuel pump.

Nice little bikes - not without issues but a lot of fun to ride.
$150 is cheap if it's running - don't be amazed if you have to do quite a bit of work to get it 'right' (check out my thread on the ex Str8 jacket FZR 400 for photos) but it's not too difficult. At $150, if it's not stolen or got any coin owing on it I'd snap it up - in fact if you don't want it I'll double ya money right now and take it (thats how much fun they can be) as part of my plan to be the FZR king of NZ...
The down side of them is there is 4 of everything, parts are expensive, they use a lot of gas, tyres are 'difficult', they need a lot of maintaining, the riding position is 'cramped' for anyone over 5'10' the stock suspension is terrible and the brakes only just up to the power.
The good side is the frame is fabulous, you can upgrade them endlessly, the power is more than adequate and they accellerate really well once you hit the go zone, light, fun to ride, cheap to buy.
You are unlikely - even at that $$ to make much on them - they struggle to sell much over $2k
Cheers
