View Full Version : Leather suit inside ALPINESTARS S-MX boots?

I wear a two piece Alpinestars suit and the legs don't fit inside my (current) boots very well. There's no way the legs would fit over, and even if they did, they'd look incredibly stupid.

I'm considering upgrading my boots to these ALPINESTARS S-MXs:

Or these SMX Plus:

Does anyone own a pair and know if they're generous around the calves? Also, do they squeak when you walk? My current Alpinestars boots are chronic for it.

I love the Alpinestars I've currently got and I'll keep them as my round town boots. I want to stick with this brand because I'm a poser and it matches my other gear. :o

i should be a little more informative; the smx plus boots have an inner shoe which comes just above the ankle; this bootie has draw strings like the inside of a snow boarders boot; pull and tighten, then Velcro to the inner; There is therfore a gap between the inner and the top of the outer.. just so happens this gap is the perfect size for putting ya leathers into; assuming ya leathers are tight. My suit is perfect however my separates are a little loose and sometimes get bunched up and i get the zip diggin in.. a quick readjustment and we're away.

the outer has a zip and a ratchet, again like snow board boots; my last pair of alpinestars had Velcro to close the boot. Over time this Velcro now looks like one of the hair bare bunch and about as useful as .. well yeah

The SMX + are a comfy boot, very very squeaky.. i oil the buggers more regular than the chain, stylie and give me loads of feel; i couldn't get my fat feet into other brands so cant comment. ps.., Sorry Robert, i got mine from the states at half the price of NZ retailers.

Unfortunately i was a little quazi footed on the cbr and instead of grinding the slider of the boot I've ground the sole away which means my pinky can get a little cold sometimes.. but thats me not the boot.

9 out of 10.. with 1 deducted for mad squeeks

My boots have a plastic bit that rubs against the boot itself (see pic 1). I got a small piece of self adhesive velcro and stuck it to the underside of this plastic - the fluffy side of the velcro now rubs against my boot. It cost me nothing and it's stopped the squeaking. Simple :first:

Good thinking bat gurl! I've got that set of boots too and they're the ones the Velcro has disintegrated on and don't work anymore!

I'll try that on my smx's cos thats the same piece that skweeeeeks ~}

I did wonder about the safety factor if your boots don't velcro together properly. Mine are that snug around the foot that they'd never come off without taking my foot with them :shit:

I know someone close to me that loves your crotch ventilation in that dynamic super hero 1 piece....

I use chain lube for my boots...

With that poof on a fiat tho, the Dainese suits have 2 zips at the calf so you can 'fold' and zip away the leather if you want an innie, or just zip the norm zip only for an outie. I'm doin the goof way cos the smx velcro keeps coming undone.

If that helps..

Hey MG, I've got the SMX+ So yes the leathers fit and yes they squeek.
As for the calfs they have a bit of adjustment around that area.
Next time I see ya you can throw ya foot in to check the fit or try and find
someone who stocks them and try them there, although I've not seen any here in TGA.

Cheers Mike, and I might bring you some velcro on Thursday to fix your squeaks too

I have the sidi vertigo's with the flash harry cable winding doo-hicky to close up on the back of the calf. These has quite a squeak to them, so I took them off and put a layer of ptfe tape (teflon) inside.

Wonderful stuff, got it on the drawer runners in the kitchen, and under the feet of the coffee table. Easy to move and no marks on the polished wood floors.
3M make it.

So now I can sneak inside when I come home late from the wednesday and thursday night rides.:shifty:
Oh wait, that doesn't work anymore now Ii have a really noisy Fireblade:doh:

Yup.

I've got the same boots.

Squeak like buggery.

And the right one has the worst performing velcro at the top. You have to really push it well together and smooth it out or else they open at the top while you ride.

And there's no way my Quasimoto leathers will go over the top of the boot. There's only just enough room for my socks inside them.

But I've never found another pair of boots that fit my feet like the Alpinestars SMX do. Like boomer I have really really wide feet. Everything else pinches on the edges. So I'll put up with the noise and the silly velcro. Cause they fit well and they look good. And that's all that counts really.

If there's one thing you can't do with squeak boots, it's sneak anywhere - believe me, I've tried :innocent:

I get the same thing, but it's normally 'cause I catch them on the footpegs when I take off  It's cause there's bugger all velcro holding them closed that they're so easy to open, and then you get chilly :cold:

Yup, it's easy to compromise when the boots fit so well. They might've pissed off everyone who ever heard me walk in them, but man those boots are comfy!
