Shaftdrive if I'm not mistaken . You should get about $2000 if it's in top condition / low k's good motor etc . SENSEI NP

hmmm, nice, well please let us all know what you want for it if you decide to sell, they are verrrry nice bikes to look at anyways, I never actually ridden one, but from what I recall of them they have a low seat height suitable for a short ass such as myself. Some photos would be nice..... sluurrrrp

To the guy that said $2000 what planet are you from.
To the other guys, I am looking at offers bear in mind that this is very rare collectable bike. Much better than the one in the photo. Just spent $2000 on redoing the gearbox. Great bike to ride well balanced and very forgiving. Great for small ass's. Mummy loves this bike so serious punters only.

Does it look anything like this. If so although a very nice looking bike you'll be looking at between $4k -$6k depending on cosmetic condition. I have seen most bikes that are that age in mint condition go for around that price bracket. Good luck for a sale

Hmmm, i'd say $2000-4000 for a private sale depending on condition etc. Just because $2000 has been spent on the thing doesn't mean it'll slap another couple of grand on to of the price. It is 20+ years old after all. Bit like over capitizing on a house. Personnally after spending that amount of dosh I'd ride the thing for a few years then sell it.

That's a standard chain driven Xv1000 The chain was completely enclosed. And probably one of the most well appointed underated V-twins at the time. A Midnight Special is shaft driven, gunfighter exhausts with a factory "custom" style to it.

will get photos up later today or monday mornin. This bike is old but collectable it was the 10th one ever made. I know that the $2000 spend doesnt go on top of the price. If I sold this bike will sell maybe between $5000- $6500 which is what the bike shops feel? Its not how mint something is its weather you can find one. Thanks

Its not how mint something is its whether you can find one. Thanks I'm not trying to put you off but condition of the bike has a hell of a lot to do with the price of a m/c. Being from Rotorua you have to consider sulpher in the air as well. Age, no. of owners, parts availability and millage certainly do as does popularity (reliving ones boyhood and all that). Xv1000 MS's wheren't that popular here in NZ compared with the XS/XJs, KZ/GPZs, GS/GSXs and CB/CBXs of it's era. $6500 would be way over the top I'd have thought. It'll be nice to have a look at the pics though. Good luck.

:spudwave: Dredging my memory banks the XV was a flop worldwide for Yamaha so the rarity value would only be because it was not a big seller. It was only when they put the engine into their chopper/cruiser style bike that they made money. So you could have problems with spares. I'd say the $2000 to $4000 price range would be about right with a leaning towards the lower.

Don't be offended! The market will decide what it's worth! It's not always what you think either, but then again, you only need one buyer!

Currently, the market does not think a lot of the late 70's early 80's factory custom / chopper things. Time might change that!

You might wanna hang onto it a lot longer! It might be worth more!

Good luck!

Hi Midnight

As you can see from my public profile I have the XV750 special. I have owned this since 1988. I saw one recently at Red Baron that was renovated to near perfect condition and I think they wanted about $3500 for it (can't quite remember exactly, but I was going in to order some parts so I'll tell you what it is if it's still there).

I personally have know idea what mine is worth, but I have had it so long (I bought it with only 5000k on the clock) but it hasn't always been my number one vehicle hence it only has 61k on the clock now. My bike definately needs cosmetic work but is otherwise in original condition, despite the critics on this thread there is a market for this type of bike and the 1000cc version must generate a bit of a premium.

Did you see Top Gear last week before last, when Jazza sold his cages he lost money, and the next year they went up in value so he would have made money holding on to them for a bit longer.
(or is the increase in value the result of him not owning them any more)

Yup! Everything goes in cycles. last year 60's triumph's were red hot and the price was bloody stupid. BSA twins slid backwards, Nortons were static and I think everyone that want a classic RD350 already has one.

Next year? Who knows!
