I'm looking out for a 250 4 stroke with an inline 4 cylinder engine. I'm hopefully going to enter it into the streetstock class at Manfeild (They now allow 250 4's to race in this class with the 150's). The bike doesn't have to be road legal (as I’ll probably get a cheap commuter) and doesn't have to look pristine, so long as it is working. All cosmetics and lights will be taken off anyway. I wanted to know what price I'm looking at. 2 grand?

When I bought my first bike, a 1987 Honda CBR250, I paid $4000. (Oh, when I sold it, the dealer sold it to someone for the same price, 15 months after I bought it) It was in immaculate condition mind you, AND, 250's are an expensive market. But, since you're using yours on the track, I'm sure you could get one for a whole lot less. The only prob is, the cheaper you go, the more work they'll need I'm assuming.
If I were you, and had the money, buy something you COULD use on the road, and that is in decent nick, then just take everything you don't need off. Then, if you ever want to ride it on the road, or more importantly want to sell it, just stick everything back on, get it WOF'd and Rego'd, and your set. However, if you have ANY morals lol :devil2:, mention to the prospective buyer that it was used as a track bike.
Also, make sure you've got decent gear for the track first, wearing something stupid like Jeans will come back to bite you later (not that anyone is crazy enough to ride with jeans  hehe)
Dave.

I bought a ZXR250 for $1500. Bikes with 'cosmetic defects' are going to be cheaper. Of course you will be fighting for the same bikes as L plate riders who want the fastest thing around. Trade and Exchange is your friend.
