Rossi to join Capirossi on Ducati all Italian dream team

Bayliss to team up with Hodgson in privateer/satellite Duke GP team

Me supposed to have bike for whole of 2004....:D

Coldkiwi

hmm... lots of rumours of MOTO GP bikes getting on the road. Can't help but think Honda will lead the way and the rest of the teams will sit quietly and watch how they do it, what they cock up and then jump in the year or two after with refinements already in place to steal market share.

Aprilia are noticably absent from that list but then, what self respecting italian manufacturer puts a three cylinder on the road?? is there a latin 3-cyl precedent???

Well, only you can answer that one - probably a bad rumour:D

Hey SP, I was only trying to perpetuate the Rossi rumour that you started in another thread. I'm in the mob that believes this rumour was started by Rossi himself as contract negotiations were drawing closer...

Any more details on the Honda signing? Who buckled with the Rossi "I like the flexibility of only 1 year" vs. Mr Honda "but we want you longa..."?

10 million slides eh? Who does this guy think he is: Tiger Woods? David Beckham? Michael Schumacher? Arguably as worthy a champion, just in a less covered sport....

Although I reckon (uh oh here goes the mad bicycle rider) Lance Armstrong deserves as much chuh ching as all those names. You try 3300+ kms in 3 weeks, driven by 2 pistons only fueled with carbohyrdates! Yeah yeah, classic bicycling purists would say that he is only a stage racer and only focuses on Le Tour, but do you cats out there care/know who won the Giro d'Italia? or Paris-Roubaix? or Dauphne-Libere? Any other cycling fiends out there in KB land? I'm just amped 'cos I have just watched the highlights of last night's stage through the Pyrenees, very possibly the make or break of the wrestle between Armstrong and Ullrich, barring the penultimate time trial stage of course...:done:

PS. To qualify MY bike reference, I meant: a WORKING motorsickle for all of 2004!

wkid_one
23rd July 2003, 10:04
To re-qualify it for nuanh - a working bike he stays ON all year without hitting anything stationary or travelling in the opposite direction!

Good effort but not quite Spman.

I had hoped for real news of actual events rather than the inuendo, gossip and soft subjects of previous poster imposters. :o

But I'll give you an A for effort as you did mention the magic D several times.

maybe the dukes are lovely... but by CRIPES those MV AUgusta F4-SPR's ARE SEEEEXY! i'd actually give them a 11/10 for looks over a 916/996 getting a 10/10.

completely :Offtopic: I know.... but I couldn;t get over them when I saw them the other night! I wonder if this is what knukles has in store for his riding pleasure?

With people putting pictures like this on the web - it is no wonder my short list is getting longer.......hmmmm. That MV is serious sexy.......

SP - You should have posted the news items one by one (post count you know).

bikerboy
24th July 2003, 14:10
Rumor has it the MV was supposed to be the 998.:(

MV stole the designer from Ducati during the very early stages of the design process and he took it with him. That is why the 998 kept the old body and the 999 came out so soon after.

:argh:

Wkid 1 you can't consider the MV, it's italian and under powered! :D

wkid_one
24th July 2003, 15:55
I'm sorry but look at the bloody thing - my god - I would make an exception for that. And apparently I struggle to ride anyway- so power may not be what I need.....it is allowed to be down on power tho - isn't it only a 750 (i know little about them)??

*wonders how many Street Magics he could get for the VTR???*

*wonders why he is biking in the first place*

*wonders why if the black box is the only thing to survive a plane crash - why don't they make the whole plane out of that stuff*

* wonders why we wash towels - don't we use them when we are clean?*

*wonders why they make you wear seatbelts on the plane - you never hear 'a plane went down in Australia- but only 3 died coz the the remaining 187 were wearing their seatbelts'*

*wonders if he should stop this post*

UNDER POWERED!? those f4's are putting out 140Ps! not bloody bad for a 750! I'd wager the increase in cornering and agility would more than make up for the 250cc disadvantage over a gixxer or R1 on the roads 90% of the time.

and the looks... see, I may use up bandwidth but it was SURELY worth it!

wkid_one
25th July 2003, 15:37
The looks would make up the 250cc disadvantage.....

160hp is great - but what bloody good is it if the manufacturer has to put in a restrictor in first through thirds gears to make it rideable (Suzuki). That is the problem with many of the reviews in the bike mags...often they are more concerned about absolute power - they also ride the bike at 11/10th's - somewhere us mere mortals will never get near.....they are ex-racers, more often than not testing the bike on the track, they are complaining about bikes having issues when they are being pushed to the point none of us will get near.

It would be interesting for a bike mag to hire normal joe average riders to rate bikes (I would offer my services) for everyday riding. This would be more pertinant to us.

Who cares if the GSXR/R1/954/999 etc pushes coming around the esses at Monza when being driven at warp speed 10 with another bike up its date, while the rider is trying to pose for a mag photo and get back to test the other bikes? How does it go around the Clevedon Loop at a speed the average person will ride...this is more important to me.

I would guess in this case - the 954,999,R1, Gixxer Thou, MV, Mille etc would all come out equal (even prob half the 600's along with it) - as we don't have the skills in general to push the bikes to the point at which their faults become evident. To us it is personal preference and opinion (what we read, are told and experience) that influences our choice.

25th July 2003, 15:39
They may look good, but a GSXR750 is still quicker.......and cheaper

Was talking to the Kwaka dealer in Wellington and it looks likely to hit the store in about a years time - should be interesting for the big K - as Honda will have the true big bore thou blade replacement out and it is the revamp year for Yammie also - some stiff competition to compete with in their first true thou superbike.....I wonder if Suzuki will look at making any changes of significance in light of this?

You would probably be better off with a Kwaka 1000 (orange....mmmmmm)FZ1, Buell Firebolt,Speedtriple,Tuono,or new Bimoto Drako (mmmmmm), on the tight and twisties. Full on race reps are great where the roads are open and flowing, and the speeds get up over 140K,but at slower speeds, on real roads, are not neccesarily an advantage.
A relaxed riding position, wider bars for more turn-in leverage and tons of torque to spit you out of the corner in the wrong gear - any gear, are of more use for the average road around NZ.

Just look at the super Motards at Wanganui..........

It might not be the fastest, best value, most powerful etc. but it is arguable one of the , if not the, best looking and I'll never reach its limitations or experience any of its on limit flaws.

Interesting stuff about the mille. 25mm lower (like that), front and tail ...don't like. As for the engine; it still has the same top speedish despite being lower, slimmer, and making more power.....and it's max revs are now 11,000 instead of 10,500, but peak power comes in at 9,500.....so why raise the rev limit?

Also the factory is just taking the place of the R...the 2003 RSVR has radial brakes, but the 2004 RSVR doesn't....only the factory version...so they've just rebranded, cos the factory also gets the OZ wheels and carbon fibre a the R used to have. I may have to hang onto mine for a little longer.....maybe even till I learn to ride it properly :D
